Doorway Chain Advice

I am looking to put some chain across open doorways on some Grizzly Flats passenger carrying wagons.

What size would folk suggest, not only what the correct scale ish size would be but also if others have used chain for a similar use what size looks correct, thanks?

If it looks right, then it is right! Links per inch is one way of sizing from prototypes. I have used it on J&S coaches and my fleet of tipper cars .....



Can't remember where I got the chain from though - or where the pics are showing the chain fitted to the side-tippers

Here in the US there are craft stores that sell jewelry making supplies. They often have a variety of chain amongst other goodies that can be used in modeling.

Just had a look at Proops site but none found, certainly I have jumped on small tarnished jewellry chain for such purposes. You want links in the 2-3mm size if you can get them. Perhaps a trawl round some charity shops for cheep jewellery might turn up something. Leave out side for a while to tarnish (hoping the Magpies do not nick it) and you should be good to go.

I've added chain for coach end balconies but can't find any useful pics! In the past I've simply raided my wife's jewelery-making stash but also have bought from the handy range of black chain here: Railwayscenics Chain The links per inch might help you calculate how fine you want to go.

my choice was from a haberdashers in Tenterden, Kent, chain and eyelets seperately and a split pin same dimension and a wire catch on other side of door space.

Just looked on net for black craft chain, the selection is bewildering but that is certainly the route to hunt.

I've used Cornwall Boats before and been happy with their service, the last thing I obtained from them I think was 2 stations which are ideal for tram upper deck railings, but digress.

I've ordered some 3mm chain from someone on flea bay which will hopefully suit what I'm looking for.
Someone else's enquiry about handrail knobs has also been helpful, very happy I found this forum.
