Hi all - I've not posted any 'in progress' shots of this refurb, as they've not been very exciting, but now it's coming together I'm quite excited so wanted to put something on the forum.
It started out as the third, un-used LGB green Austrian bogie coach, 3062. I think it's a 1998 model, but someone has changed one of the bogies to an earlier type that cannot be fitted with a hook at one end, so it saw little use - plus a three coach train is too long for the EJ&KLR.
I had mused about getting the LGB OBB brown coach but never found one cheap enough. I decided therefore, to repaint and update the existing, unused third coach.
I got hold of a set of silver framed windows from Modell-land.de, and then stripped the coach down for repainting. I took the opportunity to add some finer wire handrails to the ends of each side and to replace the door handles on the end corridor doors. I used fine 1200 grade wet and dry paper used wet to remove the existing markings on the body. She was then given a coat of Halfords Plastic Primer, before the usual Humbrol enamel with an airbrush - this time Matt 160.
I applied some gloss varnish where the custom transfers were going to sit, and then these were applied once the varnish was dry with a touch of Micro-set. I've also picked out the door handles in silver and the electrical sockets in yellow on each end.
On the chassis I used a fibreglass pencil to remove the OBB and 3062 de-markations but have left the other markings.
It will receive a coat of satin varnish in a few days but before I did that I couldn't resist building it up to see how it would look when finished!
