Picture shows the late Gordon Nightscales checking on the operation and mechanics of his powered Gauge 3 turntable at a summers meeting at Thurnby (Leicestershire).
The coal fired loco. was originally an LBSC Dyack model and was Great Western'ised by John Shawe.
You can just see some light chimney smoke. The engine will be connected up to a rake of GW coaching stock. These were out of the picture when then photo was taken.
This engine is hands on and driven on a raised track without the need of RC although I appreciate there are plenty of coal fired engines out there which benefit from such. Indeed I have more than one myself although
I am not aware of RC for handling a coal shovel yet. I expect however someone out there will prove me wrong!
G3 has a scale of 22.5mm but needs an additional outer rail set to 64mm
