Falk No.1?

Hello,

I wondered if anyone on this forum had installed radio control onto a Bowande KM1 Falk No.1? (seen here next to my RC Bachmann Mallet)

I have the engine running quite nicely but it becomes a bit of a road runner on the straights if the regulator is set to get a train around the curves at the club track - I also run on several lines that have quite steep grades that require regulator control for the engine.

Regards,

I don't see why it could not be done..
You would probably be able to see the servo, but if you purchased a black-bodied one, it would tend to disappear into the general clutter, at sensible viewing distances.

Is it a slip-eccentric model, or would you want a second servo for the reverser?

Hi Phil,

thanks for your comment - I know it CAN be done, just would like to know what path others may have taken (rather than having to reinvent the wheel).

And no to the slip eccentric question - it has Stephenson's valve gear and a Johnston bar in the cab.

Reverse would be nice to achieve and putting the engine into at least mid-gear on downgrades with a train behind is a preferable way to control the speed after shutting off the regulator.

I have to do this with my Roundhouse Davenport at certain tracks I run on - sometimes even reverse gear due to the grades - have a look at the end of this Youtube clip which has the Davenport on the downgrade:

(I should add that in this video it is only the Davenport's second outing on a track and has quite a bit if running in to be done - it also features at the end of Part One of the Gala).

Regards,

David
