Ffestiniog Funkey Vale of Ffestiniog

I thought I'd post a few pictures of my latest project, a model of the Ffestiniog Railway's Funkey diesel Vale of Ffestiniog. I originally intended to construct the cardboard locolines kit and bought one off ebay. However, it just looked to flat and unfortunately too much like a cardboad model so I used the card as a basis for a plastic model. I photocopied the kit and then stuck it onto a large sheet of clear plastic that I had and then just cut the individual pieces out and constructed it from there.

The cab fronts caused me a lot of hassle as they are angled in both faces. i got round this by using four separate pieces and gluing them all together. The loco is battery r/c and is powered by a pair of LGB stainz chassis with the bogie sides built around them. It runs well and I think looks like a fair representation of the real thing.

It certainly looks good and there's no doubting the prototype. :thumbup:
An excellent piece of modelling that you can be proud of. :D

Super stuff !! love it:thumbup::thumbup:

REALLY good. I had thought about how nice this would be as a model for the garden. And it will pull well too with two stainze blocks. Really like it.

Amazing. Great result.:thumbup:

Very nice indeed, James! What's the dark red diesel with the yellow lining that's double-heading the Funkey in the fifth picture?

Jon.

Jon,

That looks like the other Funkey working on the Welsh Highland....and it's what Vale of Ffestioniog looked like before it got rebuilt by the Festiniog.....

Nice model which certainly captures the look of the prototype James....

The other loco is indeed the F&WHR's other Funkey diesel, Castell Caernarfon. It is built around a Piko BR 218 chassis and is again battery r/c. It's probably a little overscale to fit the chassis but it doesn't look so big that it looks odd. It also still needs a bit of detailing but I got sidetracked building Vale and having a new baby!

I actually thought they looked good together given that the VoR is made to fit FR and the other funkey is built to a bigger lading gauge. excellent.

a great idea james.. :thumbup:the loco, and the babby:bigsmile::rolf::rolf:
