First Mohawk Valley tram ready to enter service

Mohawk Valley

Registered
Country flag
Now repainted, converted to overhead pickup and fitted with new MVRR decals and numbers, Tram #61 awaits transportation upstairs to start regular revenue earning service. It’s had brake wheels fitted, replacing the older handle brake system in preparation for a front screen to be fitted (in the vain hope that someone will eventually produce one for this model).
Only another six to go…

Cheers

Martin

Back in August, in a different thread, you wrote . . .

Hobbycraft sell an own brand spray paint that is almost the same as the LGB blue colour

I want to overpaint the yellow on an LGB tram with the same blue as on the blue/white LGB tram (20202) . . .

. . . so wondered if what you had bought was . . .

. . . and whether you happened to have a 20202 tucked away somewhere to compare the colour.

Hi David,

Yes, it’s very close. I don’t think you will get an exact match and besides, paint fades and changes over time in real life. Nope, I’m afraid I don’t have a 20202 tucked away somewhere…
Make sure when you paint the tram to put a coat of grey undercoat on first, it might take two coats, all depends on how it takes. The brushable blue in the same colour from Hobbycraft is a Matt finish, so beware if you think you might be able to touch some areas of gloss paint. I’ve yet to find a brushable gloss from them.

The pic below shows one of my Steeplecabs, now numbered 5 at the depot, sandwiched in between two standard paint LGB models so you can see how close the colours are. At the end of the day the choice is yours, but I’m very happy with it.

Cheers

Martin

In the first pic, the Mack has been repainted with this paint and the steeplecab is in LGB paint. The middle steeplecab (un numbered) has been repainted…

For the cream, I use Montana spray paint colour Orme. Again this is available from Hobbycraft. The top of the can makes it look like its brown paint, but the legend Orme is printed on it. It’s not exactly cream, more if a creamy off white…
