just got new nameplates for my sabre lady anne and intend to fix them to tank sides that i have resprayed satin black. i read somewhere that clear silicone sealant might be a good option. too late to solder them obviously. not a lot of heat to contend with so maybe contact adhesive? dont really want to get a huge tube of silicone for just two squirts although they have small tubes of it in white down the pound shop. any suggestions or experiences please? thanx, mart...

Double-sided sticky tape? Does nobody you know have some clear sili, it's better used up, it goes off in the tube over a quite short time if not thoroughly sealed, and even then it does eventually?

Silicone sealant as you've said.

It cleans off easily if you want to remove the plates later.

But if they will be permanently affixed, then contact adhesive will be fine....

clear sliicon ..easy to aplly, pea sizes on a matchstick, smeared over the bacck of the name plate..easy ..easy to remove too

Silicone sealant is available in little tubes from places like hobbycraft or on ebay ;)

I've used double sided tape on all of my Roundhose locos, like Stanley, here...

I use silicone for all sorts of things. If you have not put many plates on then it is very easy indeed to make mistakes with a permeant glue such as 'poxy. If you use silicone then you can remove the plates with out marks if selling or, probably more pertinently for you, if once you have them on they are slightly crooked – or have a bit of adhesive on the paintwork etc etc. The commonest cock up in the live steam hobby is dodgy plate fixing – and you would have to live with this for a very long time.... Just how much is a tube of silicone compared with the price of a new body??

Double sided sticky tape, the crafting type, although more recently a spot of superglue.

hmmm.. looks like silicone may be the way to go then. have just done the red paint on them so will post pix when done. might try with the little tube of white silicone i found in the paintbox. thanx for all replies... martin

Another option is to drill them where the Rivet Impression is and use Household or Sewing (Smaller) Pins, yes it means a very small drill. Better to be slightly smaller than the pins so that there is an intereferance fit through the Loco Body.
