Freelance double articulated locomotive

Merely a bit of fun having at one time far too many Stainz I wanted a little extra power so decided to follow prototype practice and double head, but as an articulated double-ended loco. Construction commenced over five years ago and only now have I decided to get some paint on these and complete them.

The Stainz chassis, boiler and cab were all shortened and then modified to enable the articulation. I have now assembled both chassis and am awaiting the clear coat to cure on the cab bodies before finishing them. Hopefully tomorrow and then I can call it quits on these.

Not quite so madcap as you might think. The NG lines in former Yugoslavia had Duplex's which were effectively 2 Stainz like Locomotives back to back. Sadly never seen a pic of one, but there are odd pics of them after splitting. Link to outline for you.

Would it be 'custom and practice' to run with the red smokebox to the rear?

Finally completed after years sitting on a storage shelf (soon to go back into storage). The red smokebox locomotive was a limited release version from around mid to late 1980's and I could not be bothered repainting it. As the intention was that this model is a combination of two similar locomotives for greater traction I decided to allow the red smokebox loco to retain its identity.

Purely analogue with directional lighting, I could not be bothered converting the drives to digital as the loco will receive little to no usage at all.

Me like. Didn't LGB produce a double-ended 0-6-0+0-6-0 recently with great lack of sales?

Tim, it's a shame your family name isn't Goode, then you could name this type of loco the 'Fairlie-Goode'. :)

Just a thought. I'm leaving now......

PS - I'd be grateful if somebody could advise me if my emoticons are showing. All I can see are little hollow squares...

Terry,
emoticon is visible. Yes, LGB did a combined 0-6-0, but it was extremely expensive, although one did get two locomotives.

Our local LGB dealer had such a locomotive, I recall. It was extortionately...ugly.

Glad to hear that my emoticons are appearing - my PC has Japanese OS, and is not friendly towards many characters and 'short-cuts' character sets. So long as I 'emulate' them, using : and ) and so on, rather than use the handy menu, it looks like I'm good. :)

Best
