just thought all you tram enthusiasts on the forum might like to see the steam tram i have on loan at the moment. have put a video up on http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=snvfllX6Wtg .... or type in gauge 1 steamtram greenpark and you should find it. its a delightful little thing, made by the late ron poulter who co wrote the gauge 1 project book and left to one of the guys in the bristol group when he passed on. it has a single oscillating cylinder and next time i get it out i will take some close up pix if anyone would like to see more. i have it on loan as its small enough to go round the curves on my little track and my contribution to its upkeep is a nice new sturdy box i made for it. the present owner has had some name plates made for it. it has a reversing lever and i have pulled some wagons behind it but its quite happy purring round on its own. enjoy... martin

She is a pretty little thing :-* It would be interesting to see her next to some rolling stock :)

Ohhh that is very nice.....

Martin,
I seam to remember a similar looking Steam Tram in a Model Railway Magazine donkeys years ago. Is it Mamod Stationary Engine based?
JonD

dont know about mamod jon, but ron used to make most things from scratch. i must get it in the garden and take some close ups with the roof off. martin

heres a few pix of the workings for your perusal chaps. next time the sun shines i will get some outdoors in natural light pix.  the boiler / wick / single cylinder combination is just right as it seldom blows off, keeps a steady (flat out?) speed and just does it, unlike the 2 cyl double acting oscillator with pot boiler i made for my daughter that cannot keep up with 2 cyls demand if opened up.  i will use this arrangement for a model or the radstock steam sentinel i intend to start later on. martin..

Martin,
The other thing about building Pot Boiler Locomotives, is the Gearing. I have seen Motors made out of Mamod Cylinders that when Geared Down give the most exquisite controllable Locomotive you could imagine. Food for thought?

certainly is jon. i think this one is single acting and just purrs along. heres a pic of the sentinel i intend to make a model of.  photo copyright of sentinel 7109 website who are restoring the real thing.  martin

Hi Martin, That's a fine loco. The mechanism is quite like LBSC's Myrtle.

When you build one, if you turn the motor through 180 deg. like on Myrtle you won't need the spur gears.

Best wishes,
Dave.

dave, that plan is going to be a great help for the sentinel, thank you. the layout is exactly what i had in mind... kind regards, martin.

I would be very tempted to keep the Spur Gears and Flywheel in place as the Drawing Shows. they will certainly tame the beast. The Peter Angus Steam Trams that I have are fitted with Triple Reduction Gearing and are very Tame Beasts indeed.

Here is a short vid of my Surabeya Steam Tram on a friends line in MK.
