Gauntlet track

tramcar trev

all manner of mechanical apparatus...
I have been talking to a chap while on holidays who has inspired me to rip up some of my single track and replace it with Gauntlet track. What would it do? Well I guess it would add some realism to the laneway behind my town centre and give me an extra pair of points when I eventually get on with the extension along my side fence will give me a pair for a passing loop.... Does it ever end?

Do you mean interlaced track?

yes, bothways at once with the tracks together...

Both terms are used..
Short section on the tramway in Nottingham, and a short section on the Ecclesbourne Valley Railway, tha tI know of in the UK..
Oh, and at Crich (National Tramway Museum), which makes life interesting when they try to run an intensive service at a gala..

Ah - modern terminology

this is a gauntlet track (or the study for building one)

I don't know why, but I've always known it as interlaced track.

So have I Mick, but it can be called interlaced, gauntlet or gantlet - just take your pick - now we just have to persuade Trev to get on with it ;)

an interesting detail - I like it.

A short section of interlaced track in Liverpool, 1950`s.
There was quite a lot of this in the narrow streets.

There used to be two or three sections in Blackburn.

Yeah!!!! Mine will be laid on PCB sleepers and the interstices will be paved with stones, except the flangeways which will be full of air and flanges at some time....

Still a lot of it in Lisbon but some of it is to allow sufficient radius for trams to turn into side streets... Details I really like...

And I thought working out the geometry of 'ordinary' track and points was difficult!!
:o :o ;) :D ;D

Nope, some pillock put a tram in the way! ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

The obstruction could also have been removed some time after the track was laid. they wouldn't bother changing it unless it was really necessary.

Cheers Bob.
Yes I thought that as well, maybe a bomb crater....
