Hi Folks,

Had a great day out this week on the Great Central Railway. I also had a fantastic footplate ride on the LMS Ivatt Class 2 2-6-0 No. 46521, which famously appeared in the 1995 David Croft BBC sitcom 'Oh, Doctor Beeching! under the name 'Blossom'.

Many thanks to the great crew and all the folks at the Great Central Railway for a super day out! You must go!!! http://www.gcrailway.co.uk

Very interesting video which would be much improved without the inappropriate music.

I really don't mind the music... but then again it's a piece I've loved ever since I first saw 2001 as an eight-year-old and thought this was wonderful - and to this day I think it is the most beautiful piece of cinema I've ever seen.....

Hi Peter, Thanks for the post and glad you liked the video. It was a truly great day and very exciting to film and put together. You are right about the music...I must stop listening to Classic FM... it gets in your head! I am a sucker for classic music as I used to be a music teacher and can never see a steam train without wanting to play the piano!

Excellent video, but the music...

Hi Henri, Sorry about the music...you are right of course...I must stop listening to Classic FM. I'm afraid I was a music teacher and always feel I must play the piano when I see a steam train. You can blame that Mr Rachmaninoff for his wonderful Piano Concert No 2 in that marvellous film Brief Encounter. You will be much too young to remember that though!

I can't waltz - but I still like the music!

Totally agree Jon...I love the music, but also as a lover of SCI-FI I have to also agree with you on 2001. IT is a film with effects that are often copied but seldom equaled.
In fact I have to pinch myself to remember that it was made almost 50 years ago and how prophetic it was for things like the gadgets and flat screens that we use today

Love the film, Love the music !!! What a great experience !!! The area kettle is the perfect English touch !!!

Thanks Dan, It was a first for me and very exciting! How I managed to take any video at all was incredible. I had no idea what the camera was looking at and the focus was all over the place. I didn't think it was worth even making a video but my kids said I should have a go. The tea pot was full of hot tea which the driver and fireman had when we stopped. When we got to Leicester North they both got out to uncouple to loco to take us back. "Don't touch anything!" said the driver. As I would!!! Great Day Out and a wonderful experience! Folks must try it ...it's well worth it!
