Hello everyone, I’m Phil living in South Texas. Just getting going on my first outdoor layout. I’ve wanted to do this for a while, but the sun and humidity here would take its toll on track very quickly. I had an old Big Hauler 4 6 0 that didn’t work so I pulled the electronics out of an RC car and installed them. To my surprise it worked really well, granted only forward and reverse, but the doors just opened up. Without having to worry about track power I’m off and running and excited. Looking forward to learning from everyone here. Thanks!

Welcome aboard Willie, sounds like you have just the right mind set to really enjoy Garden Railwaying ( I think thats a word ), now don't forget photo's

Yes - welcome! We look forward to hearing (and seeing) more about your efforts!

Welcome to the forum, Phil. Looks like you've made a great start to your adventure in Garden Railwaying. Just remember we like pictures and the humour is very British!

Welcome to the forum. There are others on here who run trains in what I would call extreme heat (they tend to say 'it's been a bit warm' :giggle:), so it should be possible. You will find all sorts of approaches to the hobby on here, whether they advocate track, battery, or steam power. It sounds like you are well on the way to finding what works for you!

Welcome to the forum, Phil....

Welcome Phil , looking forward to seeing your efforts. We get a bit of sun to deal with here too, our temperatures aren't too high, but UV is very harsh here.

Yup, RC can be a good way to go - I do a bit of both (track power and RC)

Welcome to the Forum, Phil...

The humour is very 'over here', and many of us have been here long enough to (sort-of) know each other, and so there can be a bit of banter..

Sounds like you will enjoy playing trains? - We don't take it too seriously, most of the time.

Enjoy!
PhilP.

Hi Phil from the land that time forgot. Lots of enthusiasm I see, always good. Loads of good info and help on the forum as we have all learned by our many mistakes, that means I must still be at primary school. Enjoy yourself here!
