HELP! LGB Rotating Points Lantern trouble-shooting - What am I overlooking?

What am I overlooking? I fiddled around for about 2 hours before throwing up my hands in frustration. I'm attaching photos to try to aid the description of my issue. The elongated pin from the lantern will not stay housed in the elongated hole of the adapter once the switch is thrown a couple times. I opened two addition 1204 sets believing it was a defective set, with the same issues, so I'm obviously doing something wrong. I'm hoping someone can shine some light on my error. I do not believe glue is the answer since the whole assembly has rotating parts. - Jay

It's a while since I used these as I kept knocking mine off the points!

I think that you have mounted the adaptor piece circled in the first diagram incorrectly.

It needs to be clipped to the side of the tie bar, not at the end as you have done.

On your photo it should be clipped to the lower side so that you have a P shape, the pin fitting inside the hole....

Took me a while to find pictures of the older style of point motor which has these 'lugs' as part of the tie bar.

I hope this might explain how you need to fix your ones to your motors which use a clip on lug.

I guess you could glue them on if you can find a glue that sticks the LGB plastics....

I believe I’ve been doing what you instructed. The problem is that the adaptor won’t engage with the pin because the pin isn’t long enough. I’m completely dumb founded by such a simple task. Like I said, I’ve tried 3 separate sets and none ‘fit’ so I’m obviously missing something or LGB designed this HORRIBLY. 951AD399-EB89-4122-BBED-25340F903623.jpeg6366C9FA-9715-40F3-BD0F-042082D61AB0.jpeg7DBF4D6C-7A78-4263-B596-BC186D5E78A4.jpeg

The top photo in your last post looks correct Jay.

I am at a loss to explain your problem now?

If you can source (beg/steal/borrow) the older type motor with the P lug then this might help you resolve your problem....

A thought Jay!

Are these clip on lugs 'handed'?

There might be a right and left version, and you have the opposite hand fitted 'upside down'!

Try the motor, lug and lantern on the other side of the point....

I feel like I’ve attempted to fit the adapter in every configuration possible, front, back, side, upside down, right side up, you name it. I’m contemplating scrapping the switch lanterns from the layout but I really don’t want to.

AFAIK, the only other forumite who uses these, is Nodrog.

I found that they were a problem on my previous layout, as I kept knocking the lanterns off. Either me or the wildlife.

My layout was floating on ballast at ground level, where as, Nod's is raised on concrete slabs.

He might chime in tomorrow with his 2 pennies worth....

I use these. Have nine of them out in the yard. It appears you are not installing the adapter correctly. The adapter slips over the end of the throw bar and snaps in place. Note that you have to push it on fairly hard to get it to snap around the throwbar pin. It is firmly attached to the throwbar when correctly installed. It is not meant to rotate about the throwbar pin. To answer Gizzy, the adaptor is handed in the sense that it is flipped over if it needs to be attached to the other end of the throwbar. There are cutouts molded on each side that can snap onto the throwbar pin. The unused cutout can be seen in the first pic below.

The only problem I have is making sure the rotating part of the lantern is lubed otherwise there is enough resistance to keep the turnout from throwing completely. I use a dry teflon spray lube a couple of time a year. Don't use oil or WD-40 - it'll just collect gunk!
