HELP!? Problem with R/C on Accucraft WLLR Countess

Nibbs

45mm Gauge, 16mm scale narrow gauge garden railway
I don't know whether anyone can help me with this one:-

I had a short circuit on the electrics on The Countess caused by a wire getting pinched between the bodywork and the footplate. I have repaired the wiring but the R/C doesn't seem to respond now. It seems as if the receiver is not getting the signal from the transmitter although both are working and have fully charged batteries.

I think somehow I have 'wiped' the memory of the receiver but even though I have studied the book that came with the R/C equipment I can't get it working. Anyone got any ideas or help they could give to a completely eclectically ignorant modeller!

Very many thanks in anticipation.

Cheers!

I think you will find that the receiver is dead to the world, despite the power light being on (I guess that is how you know it is still working). I've seen similar with a customer's loco that came to me for attention with exactly the same fault.

The receiver circuitry is not designed to cope with anything other than the polarity and voltage that it was designed to take, so it is probably dead. The only option will probably be to replace the receiver as they are not economic to repair.

Kieth, you don't say what radio you have, my Countess has Spektrum 2.4 ghz (pre-fitted). Have you tried re-binding the Tx and Rx.

If that fails then I think Tony may well be right.

When you insert the binding plug on the AR500 RX and then turn the RX power on the LED blinks rapidly. I would assume other SPEKTRUM RX's do the same thing.
So, if the LED does flash when the RX is turned on with the binding plug in, I would suggest the RX is probably OK.
Try rebinding it.

Keith, let us know how you get on.

Hi All,

Many thanks for the help and advice. My problem is I know very little about electrics. The system is a AR6200 receiver and a Spekrum DX handset. I have a binding plug but the instructions (as far as I understand it) say plug it into the charger point. However both the charger socket and the plug are 'female' so I cant do that. Beyond that I'm really not sure what to do. I am quite happy to buy another r/c receiver but I'm still not sure what to do with it.

What I need is an idiots guide to what plugs in where and how to re-bind the controller to the loco. I am sorry to be so thick but I find the instruction book very complicated despite having read and re-read a number of time.

Many thanks again in anticipation.
Cheers!

Keith, I have to say I agree with your confusion. I have just dug out my "bind plug" and instruction book, and I would suggest the book is very clear about where to plug it in.........BUT, both the charging fly lead, AND the bind plug, are, as you suggest, female.

Having said that the bind plug shown in the instruction book pic does have a second part to it which mine does not. Is that extra piece a double ended male, to allow connection???

Perhaps someone like John from TrackShack can help here.

Take the bind plug and plug it into the "Power" socket of the Receiver, put the battery power supply into any other of the available servo sockets. Make sure you have the correct polarity !!!!! Switch on the receiver then the transmitter whilst holding the bind switch on. When the Receiver lamp flashes it should be bound.

Hi Wpandyr,

Many thanks - your a hero.
I did just what you said and I have control of my Countess back again.

I plug the power lead into a spare outlet and the binding plug into the power socket and immediately I had flashing lights!! Then I turn on the transmitter holding up the trim? switch (back top left). Then after removing the binding plug, reconnecting the power and turning on the transmitter I was away and all works again.

Thank you so much for your help and thank you everyone who sent messages. G Scale mad really does work. I can't wait for daylight tomorrow when I can run The Countess from Llanfair to Golfa - that's as far as I've got with my line so far.

Cheers!

Result! That's what it's all about! Seems odd that the pictures show one thing and the reality is something different.......but???
