Help what is this kit please?

Hi,
I have recently bought a Glyn Valley Tramway loco secondhand and I was told by the seller that it is a resin kit with an aristocraft bogie underneath, however he did not know exactly what kit it was. I would like to know as I would love to have a go at building one. If you have any ideas please help.
Thanks,

Interesting question. I've not seen a GVT loco kit in 16mm scale - would be a good prototype as the skirts could hide virtually any motor block. My first guess would be an early Garden Railway Specialists (GRS) kit - but their early kits tended to be plasticard rather than resin. I'd be interested in the answer as well.

PS Not sure if you've tried uploading a photo - would like to see what it looks like

I nearly bought a model of a GVT loco from the members stand at the Stoneleigh show last year (I didn't thanks to their ridiculous purchasing rules). It was painted a pretty nasty shade of green, but had a lot of potential (it's a loco I've wanted for some time). I was told it had been made from a GRS kit.

I'd really like to see your photo Andrew, but you have to be a member of the forum for 90 days before you can post pics and send PM's (anti SPAM measure). Would it be possible to email it to one of the moderators?

Hi Andrew, can't help you with the kit maker but Hello and Welcome to GScale Central.

I cannot find a reference to a Glyn Valley loco in my old GRS catalogues (going back to 1990) unless it was only made for a short time. However John Amlott (spelling?), who used to work for GRS, set up a small business a few years ago making and selling kits of all things Glyn Valley; locos, stock and buildings. He used to have a stand the annual Kew show. I'm wondering if it is one of his.

Oooooooohhhh yes!! I REALLY like that.

I don't remember the one I saw at Stoneleigh being that well built or detailed. Whoever made the kit, I wish they would re-release it. As Rik rightly says, it seems to be a pretty obvious loco to model as the skirts could contain pretty much any motor block.

Ditto - it would be worth building a section of roadside railway / tramway just to justify running one.

PS - Thanks for solving the mystery chaps - doesn't seem to be a website for JA Replicas are they (he?) still trading?
