on sunday, in my local shop, i spied a soemwhat used 3068s-the yellow US cattle car with sound-circa 1992
obviously has been outdoors and not cleaned- but in otherwise great shape-nothing broken, no paint gone, all the steps etc

i bought it, as other than for dirt, it was fine, and with LGB metal wheels and electrical pick ups - i figured not a bad deal even if the board was kaput, as I was advised

sound card wasnt working-had always wanted a yellow sotck car so i figured with metal wheels and the price-it was about fair, even w/o the board

being the eternal optimist and tinkerf(*&k-i thought id give it a go

tested the speaker, the power leads, battery clip and leads, the volume pot, off on (a bit corroded but given a shot of electrical lube and a good workout)-and attached leads directly to the appropriate pins on the board
-no apparent breaks or issues, corrosions, loose caps or other bits, of any type on the board face or on the printed circuits

anyone have any advice on how to possibly revitalize this dead board-???

Hi Steve
I have one of these cars. Before I decided to motorise three Bachmann stock cars and then add 8 other non motorised ones and then add QSI 'Live Action' cow sound cards, I acquired the LGB yellow jobby. The sound works in my one but it does have a rechargeable battery pack with a 'dodgy' slide on/off switch on the roof for the sound. I was not sure if this was factory fit or had been done after market. The slide switch needs to be replaced...has yours one of these?
I wonder why LGB decided to make a yellow Rio Grande stock car?

yes mine has a slide on the board itself-and its a bit grotty

i will give this a go since you hae mentioned it as a potential source, and...i actually know how to replace it and happen to have new slide switches at hand-ill keep you posted as ill bet your on tenterhooks!LOL

Sorry to hear that Steve. I could never find a manual after searching online so am not sure if there is anything that could be sorted easily.

But I have found this one which is circus stock car 41682. There is also a Rio grande sheep stock car with sound 43682
here is the link to where the pdf of the manual can be found. It looks the same..but it seems to be digital!!
