My GE 44 111 has developed a fault. Runs fine on pure analogue
On digital analogue won't allow the Massoth to pick it up, but does not short it out
Susspect fault on the board so I am reluctant to fit a decoder to it just in case.
I know the DCC programmer will detect a fault but thought I would consult the experts (definition drips under pressure)
So come on with your thoughts

Re:Help

BTW the lights work how they should along with the dash board lights

So... just to clarify the loco is NOT dcc chipped at the moment? You're simply trying to run it as the single analogue loco allowed on the Massoth system?
I wouldn't have thought the Massoth system would have anything to "pick up", it's just stretching the dcc signal to make the unchipped loco move, and the system has no knowledge of what loco it is. Seems odd that the loco won't go but does work fine on straight dc. hmmm.... have you tried a different unchipped loco on the Massoth to make sure the pseudo analogue mode is working?

Re:Help

You are right Nick. Unchipped at the moment (picked on up from Glendale at G Rail saturday)
Haven't got anything un chipped to try against.
When I say pick up I refer to the navigator the loco symbol comes upwith a cross thogh it. Remove the loco and the square controller logo comes up

Re:Help

Mind you I could just put a motor on it to try. I'll be back

Re:Help

Curiouser curiouser said the doormouse.

On wireless no go . But tether the navigator and it works

Re:Help

So I am just going outside and I may be sometime, but won't be going far.(short lead.)

Re:Help

The plot thickens. OK, I'm not a Massoth system user so over to the experts on this one then!

Re:Help

If you can run dc direct to the motor, and it works; then try dc, via the chassis, but bypassing the Massoth pcb, hard wire without the Massoth pcb. For DCC, hard wire the chip to the motor, lights etc, providing all worked by doing above in dc. Alyn.

Re:Help

Thanks guys .It is in the garden running quite happily tethered
Pulls 1 amp.
So do I go ahead and chip it

Re:Help

And here is the offending loco

Re:Help

Silly question but i assume it is buzzing when on the track? If not then i might have a chip in already...

Re:Help

Doesn't sound like a loco fault to me. Probably some sort of setting in the Massoth system.

Go ahead and chip it. You might as well have all the same benefits as your other locos have on DCC. The loco will be better off, you won't be gently cooking the motors all the time it's sitting on your DCC tracks.

[edit] and Steve P asks a good question! If in doubt, try reading it with a DCC programmer [/edit]

Re:Help

Don't mind now it runs, so let the chipping commence

Re:Help

BTW anybody got a spare pantograph???????????????

Re:Help

Any use my bringing my MTS2/3 (tethered) for comparison or are you past that stage?

Or, just past it? :rolf:

Re:Help

I've had this happen with chipped locos as well. I think it has something to do with the central station thinking that the loco is being controlled by someone else. I think this can happen if you turn things off in a funny order, while a loco is running. I haven't used my 1200Z much in the last few years, so it might just be an old version of the software.
