Herrmann live steam

Link doesn't work. have heard of them however and have had an article by someone that runs them ? albeit many years ago. All seemed fine...

I saw them at Amberley last year - ran very well indeed, really controllable, and looked very well made in that German way! I have a catalogue I picked up then. Herr Hermann was in fact there I was told, but I didn't meet him, but the three locos I saw were of very impressive quality in every way, but with a price to match. The ownwers were very happy with them - if they are in your price range, and you are prepared to wait, I would say they are a great product. No connection, by the way! I will try to find some photos, but I'm at work (shhh) at the moment.

PS - I have a link at home that works too!

thank you all for your input. I would like to have a single live steam locomotive and would prefer it to be a good quality product that will be with me for the rest of my days and they certainly look like they would. I think I will e-mail them and see it they would ship to the US
Cheers

They look very much like Regners to me.

Similar to Regner, yes, but not the same. These were better, IMHO.

The quality was absolutely top notch - I am a graduate engineer so can understand what I'm looking at - and the running simply the best I have seen.

I do wonder if they use Regner cylinders, but the rest is slightly different. The thing that really impressed me was the machining of the motion etc, and quality of the joints and pivots. And the running of course. These were brand new, had only been run that day, but were superbly controllable at low speed, even on the sharp curves of the demo layout. The owners were ecstatic - and they all had other locos from the usual sources.

Neil: thanks for the images. They do look stunning, and I do agree with you on the quality at least based the pictures. I have not heard from the company but I am not giving up yet. if I do not hear in a week, I will call. I hope someone there speaks english, or french.

cheers

Don't be surprised if they are quiet for a while. Many small companies in continental Europe shut down for anything from 2-4 weeks for a summer break in July/August. The products are first class and have had rave reviews in the German language model press. If I had 3500 Euros spare, an Echtdampf Mallet would be quite high on my wish list!

Our German friends certainly know how to make a good engine. No pop rivets or cheese head screws here, proper bolts and built like tanks...Love me Regners.

They certainly have that feel, Allan, as do the Regners, that they will last forever! I'm with you about the screws and bolts too....

They could do with a chuff pipe though, they were very quiet in operation. Oddly I don't recall what the burners sounded like, so that probably means they were very quiet!!!

The cab roof on 99 211 isn't a bad fit by the way - it hinges for servicing and just hadn't been clicked into place!

I love that Mallet too, Peter, and given a modest lottery win....

That's the only fault, those horrible pressure gauges.
