Hi all i signed up here in response to an interesting article i read on steam loco lighting (oil lamps) ive been away from model railways for many years, since 1986 infact, ive decided to start from scratch and create a dcc layout.

The first train ive bought is a hornby LNER j83 class loco, now concerning lighting, did these trains ever have any front and rear oil lamps? im interested in fitting a hornby dcc decoder chip to the loco and fitting front and rear oil lamps from express models UK. the loco will be shunting mixed frieight so which front lights should i use? (if any) also should i fit a rear red oil lamp?

This is just a basic model to begin with to get myself familiar with Digital dcc.

Many thanks for reading!

This is the loco in question:
