Jumbo

I’m attempting to run three separate engines on three separate tracks with a LGB Jumbo. What would you use to regulate the train speed on each individual track? I’m looking for a cost effective solution. I bought a few DC regulators off of Amazon that have a speed dial but they don’t seem to be working with the jumbo. This is our Christmas setup we do each year in the attic for the holidays.

I think you can use the MTS Loco Remote with a Jumbo?

It's actually a dedicated (wired) walkabout controller . . .



. . . but that doesn't get the OP any closer to controlling three different trains on three different tracks.

The instructions seem to suggest they would all get the same voltage, but the use of track contacts allows each to be slowed or stopped independently of the others . . .

I do not have the remote. I’d like to have 3 separate speed controls for each engine. Currently any automation I add to one track affects the operation of all 3.

Simple answer - you can't do that. A Jumbo is intended for running a single controlled output. You need a separate transformer/controller for each running circuit.

Thank you for the input. Can I challenge a thought… the jumbo has three separate DC outputs on the back. If I put a regulator on each track between the jumbo and the track connection… couldn’t I limit the voltage getting to each track separately?

The "three" connectors are just the same controlled DC output from the Jumbo, not separate isolated fixed voltage DC outputs. Theoretically you just entirely ignore all the control functions of the Jumbo and just set it to full voltage then use three separate DC circuit controllers (one for each running circuit) to separately control each train, but there are a bunch of traps (both electrical and financial) in going down that path.

The other option woukd be to have an isolating section on each track and turn that section off as necesary. With slow speed no damage would occur, one they are in place EPL could be used to add start up sections on the other tracks to get things going again. With a lit of lateral thinking where start up places are it could confuse most visitor's.

The cheapest option is to buy a couple of cheap train set controllers & just leave the jumbo on one track.
