KISS LOCOS

I don't know for certain but certainly the batch of GE662 that Arcadia got ,including mine, had plastic gears.
A fresh lot of axles with brass gears were fitted to the batch in Arcadia. Hope this helps. Any particular reason for the enquiry? I am pretty sure they are module.

I'll take a photo of my spare axles

This help?

Careful! 4/4 I model was plagued with plastic gearsets that fractured all too easily after a very short period of running. These were recalled and replaced by brass geared axlesets free of charge - though they were a bit tricky to get hold of. I received a lot of help from this forum and Dragon G Scale to obtain replacements. If plastic gearsets are fitted to a loco you're interested in, then tread carefully if they're original. You can whip the keeper plate off the base of the motor bogies very easily to have a look - there are no hidden booby traps or spring loaded items there.

Fractured plastic gearset - 2 failed initially. No going back or repair on this.

Failure is spectacular and terminal. Early warning of impending doom is a click click click on running..... Left long enough I guess there are two possibilities - if you're lucky the gear will be thrown clear and you'll have 3 axle drive. If you're unlucky the gears will jam and we all know what that will mean....... :(

Brass replacement is simple and effective - and rather beautiful as well methinks!!

Many thanks for all the replies.

I think the answer is 0.7 Module.

I bought the engine just before Christmas as a present for my wife. It was described as second hand but as new. I was assured it would be tested before being dispatched. Later it emerged the vendor had not done this. On arrival the engine lights and sound worked and there was motor hum but no rotation of wheels. On inspection all four plastic gears were broken in half.

Kiss have replaced the wheelsets and the engine now runs.

Further question!!

There was no instruction leaflet with the engine. Can anyone supply me with a scan of it please? I don`t know what the three switches do.

Many thanks

Ha! I did try to warn you. Glad you managed to obtain replacements from Kiss.

Mine is in the loft at the moment, so will have a look when next up there but this may be awhile. I don't think there's anything too complex about the switches - I recall one is wheel pickup, another switches to pantograph, and I believe the last isolates the traction motors so that you can leave it in a siding with the lights on. But I may be wrong on the last one!

I also recall that the instructions weren't actually too specific and I ended up setting my switches by trial and error (you can't do any damage by this method). Once I had got the loco doing what I wanted it to, I then put a tiny paint blob (from one of those silver paint fineline marker pens) against the base of each switch to remind me which way it should be set - as it is guaranteed that when you lift the loco from the rails, you will put your fingers under the loco at precisely the position of the switches and move one or more!

If it's anything like the GE66 2 ,I just bined the electronics and switches and wired it up to the massoth chip and set the voltage down for the lights.Far too complicated

Unfortunately no pictures. Just put a XLS GE 66 11 in it.
The wiring is like computor ribbons. Along with plug in boards piggy backed
