L&B bogie coaches from Accucraft UK

Just to let folk know Accucraft opened up their order books for the new L&B bogie coaches today. They will have samples on show at LLanfair this year, and should be in the shops before Christmas.

The brake composite and the 3rd class compartment coach will be in the first batch, with the centre observation coach and the composite coach following on in 2012 as soon as some warehouse space has been made for them in the UK.

List price is targeted to be £185 and you can expecxt most dealers to nock £20 off that.

The coaches will be painted Southern Olive Green. They have the 'SOUTHERN RAILWAY' transfer and running numbers on a transfer sheet, and the coach doors have the correct class transfers already applied.

As soon as we get some early pictures from the factory I'll add them to this thread.

Happy steamings,

John

Exciting news.
L&B brake 3rd No 15 became FR car 14, the prototype for their post preservation bogie corridor coaches.
I wonder if Accucraft will follow suit and produce modern FR stock in due course.

These are pictures of the sample coaches, as seen by those who got to Llanfair.

I supposed I have a massive list of questions:-
what are the dimensions?
any chances of non-protype liveries such as rumoured for the IOM coaches?
End obervation coach?

Shame they're way too big for my railway.

Shame you bought a house with such a small garden :rolf:

On the other hand, think of the damage it would have done to the bank balance :-

two options
1 Knock house down
 ?
2 buy some big jacks and jack it up out of the way, particularly useful with rising sea levels and all.

Does anyone know if they always ran with one of the brake comps in a train off hand? I seem to remember lots of photos of just a couple of coaches although the standard train was 4 coaches for the locos.

Having subsequently looked through my books on the subject, all passenger trains carried a brake comp. Single coach trains were a brake comp. I cannot find a picture of a mixed train showing the big van & no brake comp.
Of course none of this proves that it didn't happen, just that there are no pictures of it in the books I have!

Which means that you'd really need two if you went for a couple of shorty trains. Thanks Garry, I'll check through my other ones but the three I've looked at recently are the same. I was thinking of four coaches so would have to leave one of the types out. The centre observation seems to pop up frequently in pictures too. Been looking at the GRS kit again as well as that represents the other 2-6-2's. Will have to cull the small scale collections further for the kitty.

These coach models look beautiful. If I could go back in time 3 or so years knowing what L & B stuff was about to come out in ready to run form , then I would have bought nothing else & designed my railway to accomodate such models:brokeheart:
Still on the whole I am happy with my little line.

Axe taking it easy on a hot summers day lunch break.

I don't seem to have as many photos in books as I thought.

It appears that the observation carriages were adaptations by the Southern, so I don't actually have a record of the final numbers of anything.

I do have a shot of a three coach train in Southern days that appears (it's a bit of a small piccy) to be made up of observation, brake, observation.

There were origially four composite brakes and one all third brake.

I have one photo that is just about large enough to count the rivets

I'll see what I can do ................ :nerd::nerd::nerd:
