Lady Anne Kit chassis on air

Here is a video and a pic of my Lady Anne kit I am building. Just got the chassis done, cranks pinned and timing set. Forward will start up on 8-10psi and stay running on as little as 5psi air from my airbrush compressor. Reverse takes a bit more to get it running, mostly from the valve gear not being in full reverse till I get my hand freed up to pull it into full gear. Reverse is around 15-18 to get it started, but settles down to 10-12 to stay running. Cant wait for the boiler to show up so I can run on steam. Next step is to make a mount to the crossmember to mount the Regner whistle steam line so it will support the whistle body. Cheers Mike

Looking good Mike.

Have you had to import it from the UK, or was it available locally?

We have several dealers stateside that import the Roundhouse line. I got my kits from Jason Kovac of The Train Department. He handles Roundhouse, Accucraft, Regner along with being the sole supplier of Welsh Steam Coal here in the states. He also stocks various parts, builds coal fired boilers ect. He is planning to build a coal fired boiler for the Lady Anne engines in the near future. Hopefully I will be back to work by then so I can get one. For now she will be a bog standard Lady Anne. Cheers Mike

Lady Anne was one of my first live steam locomotives, about 20 years ago. Even with a load, at about 10 psi she would "Run like a Roundhouse!"...

Very Nice pic Tom!! I am torn between shooting for that color on the body or going for a close match to the blue that Joanna is over on the Elmtree line. I have a new can of Rustoleum blue that to my eye looks close to the blue that RH uses. I had a Billy at one time and was forced to sell him to pay some bills. I have wanted another RH ever since, but it had to have more of a UK look. Lady Anne fits that bill of a nice size, UK style tank locomotive. I also want to get a couple of the semaphore signals that RH makes or find some old Hornby tinplate ones, which I do see at local train shows or on ebay. Need to work on giving my new line the feel of a UK narrow gauge line. Mike

maybe, but I do like having them already made or in kit form. Im not big on scratchbuilding stuff. Mike

Mike, when I got home from Cabin Fever here was a package from Roundhouse with what is missing in your video. So now we get to see how fast you are with platework as you painted and built the chassis in mere days.

Wow that was quick Jay! How was cabin fever? My plan is to build and paint the body first so it can cure while I deal with boiler install. Dont forget the summerlands chuffer. Mike

Roundhouse use the UK Ford automotive colour "Royal Blue", they can give you a RAL/BS # refference if you want an exact match from a local auto paint specialist stateside.

Garden Railway Specialists do a nice line in wood/white metal/brass semaphore (GWR style lower quadrant) kits and etch metal signal parts if you want to make your own.

I bet there is a USA version of that Royal Blue Ford color. I will have to check at the auto parts store this week. Mike

Mike, Duplicolor engine enamel, though I think you are after the ford tractor color not the engine color. the engine is a lighter shade where the tractors are the deep blue. There is also some model paints from Modelmaster or Boyds that have the engine colors and such.

I have both a can for ford farm equipment and the normal Rustoleum blue. The normal blue looks closer to the pics as I view them on my screen. The Ford blue is much darker. I think I am going to go with the normal blue. I have all the body parts, soldered, washed and etch primed. They are now in the oven baking for 1 hour at 180'F. Once cooled down I will shoot the color coat and bake it once its dry enough to put them back on the cookie sheets. not going to start the boiler work till I have the boiler sleeve and smoke box painted. Wanna put it together once(hopefully!) so I wont mess up the paint. Mike

How's this one progressing Mike? You've not posted for a while. Pics of your paint job would be appreciated.

Last I saw Mike had finished it , and put it up for sale on E-bay!

I was interested in how he got on baking his paint. I could have a paint job coming up that might benefit.
