Lady Anne (Oliver) on steam

The postman dropped off a large package from my steam dealer yesterday. So after class last night I set about finishing my Lady Anne Kit. I got the body all formed and soldered up last night and put into the dishwasher to clean up prior to paint. This morning I went to the store and got spray cans of etching primer and 500'F heat resistant gloss black. I got it all primed, baked, then color coat and baked this morning. I wont finish out the body for a couple days as I want the paint to fully cure before I handle it to much. I did install the boiler sleeve so I could build up the chassis. I installed the Summerlands chuffer and while designed as a press fit, I soldered it in position. As you can see in the video(click on the first picture) she passed her first steam test. Just a little fine tuning of the reverse quadrant to the sweet spot in each direction. Chuffer sounds awsome! Its pouring rain, thundering and lightning or I would go for a track test. Please enjoy the video and pics as much as I did taking them and building the kit. I plan to name him Oliver. Whatever my next engine is will be "Artfull Dodger" Cheers Mike

Loverly Mike! Though I must say, for my taste, the blue is a tad under Prussian (S&D), but better that than GWR green.

I was trying to match the factory blue of Keiths Joanna. I tried "ford blue" for the farm tractors and felt it was to dark. This was more to my liking for what I had access to here in the states. She will be sporting Prussian lanterns till I can get some of the working UK style head and tail lanterns. I plan to make a lamp iron to mount infront of the smoke stack. Mike

No criticism; I just have a thing for S&D (Somerset and Dorset).:bigsmile:

The lining is a bit fiddly though!

None taken, I thought the blue kind of had a Caldonian look to it. I am anxious to see how the final result looks once I get the body fitted out and installed. Need to get the RH remote control fittings set so I can fit my 75mhz radio set to it. I have one servo, need to get a small one to fit between the frames under the footplate to run the throttle. Cheers Mike

Wow Mike - that was quick! And it looks fantastic! Of course the colour we see in the photos is not what it will look like outside in daylight - but that is a fine blue. My first Roundhouse loco was in that colour and it is still my wife's favourite :)

75mhz is a new one on me but it sounds like AM or FM which are prone to glitching from the metal to metal contact while running. 2.4 ghz is better by far, with no such problems and no need for a long aerial. The Chinese sets are seriously cheap over here and probably in the US too.

As you say, the SCRH1 Chuffer is designed for a press fit - it just needs a light tap to seat it and there are way over a thousand fitted that way on this type of loco. Soft solder will probably melt with the heat, but it doesn't really matter as the Chuffer won't be going anywhere!

I'm looking forward to seeing the video - a heavy load and slow running gives the best effect as I guess you know;)
Cheers
Chris

Oh its not soft soldered, used silver solder and my torch when I mounted it. Thank you for the compliments. 75mhz FM radio was the standard prior to the 2.4ghz radios. Mine is an old top of the line Futaba radio with 4 channels. I have had it for years so rather than go drop more $$ on a new radio, I will just use it. Where we live doesnt seem to have issues with the radios glitching. I use the same basic system on my RC10 buggy. And did I say I love that chuffer. That should be standard equipment on every steamer right from the factory. Just like Kaydee brand couplers or a clone are fairly standard on RTR HO scale trains here in the USA. Cheers Mike
