Not strictly a G scale item but have just purchased on Ebay for princely sum of AUD 7 including postage and reckon it could be used attached to a Cinema or stand alone advertising hoarding or station info board. Measures 30 mm X 90 mm. Plugs into USB port for programming and charging. Has magnet for easy attaching/removal. ID Badge.png Creates scrolling message. Just thought worth sharing.

What an excellent idea. There are many such items on UK ebay if you search for "led name badge" or similar. The one I was looking at was £7 and could have up to 8 messages in rotation, built in rechargeable battery and charging lead, 16 hours display time. As you say it would make an interesting station announcement sign "train arriving is for xxx, next stations are yyy, zzz, first class at rear of train" etc.

One application could be on a single long digital line....where the sending end keys in the loco address, with a repeat screen at the receiving end. Halfway, the sender drops the loco, and the receiving station driver picks it up.
may just need an old pc at each end to drive each pair of displays

I got something like this a while ago after a previous recommendation on here, can think of quite a few uses but no idea whatsoever as to how to get the thing working!

Mine came with a mini disc for downloading files and instructions. Double click on the MINI LED icon and the programming screen appears, first in chinese but if you click on the 'L' a language selection drop down appears, pretty straight forward then, just select text and type in, I used font size 10 as any smaller was harder to read. Should mention once text is loaded, click right hand side under ' Text ' ones to be loaded then click on ' Send ' - bottom right. USB connected to PC and item - then downloads and stores message. Can then be unplugged and positioned on layout, has on/off button on side. After several trials I also inserted one space between each letter and 3 spaces between words to make the scrolling easier to read.LED download.png LED programming.png LED text.png

That appears to be same spec as I purchased complete with USB for charging and programming and disc to load software, this appears to vary depending on windows version, am still using windows 7 so checked if compatible, purchased direct from China - free postage.

Mine came with nothing like that, must have been a proverbial pig in a poke. Must try again and read what is being sold better! Too late to return it now as it was a year or two ago that I bought it.

Out of interest I searched for Mac compatible ones are there are dozens of Apps that can be used on iPhones and iPads. Many for free, might be of similar use to someone.
