I touched upon this subject briefly in the Coffee Shop the other day. As some of you may have noticed I have been dabbling a bit with a couple of the "Phoenix Folies" whitemetal figurines, bit expensive, I know. Then one of my kids gave me a few bits and pieces from the Lemax range, including a couple of figures. I immediately saw that the Lemax golfer is considerably the lesser of his rather statuesque scantily clad partner - she's not finished yet, by the way, a lot of touching up to be done, well, you know what I mean. I'm not sure what the scales are, but the lady is about 80mm tall, the puny gent only 70mm. This is eternally a problem with figures in G-scale, even when you make your own you run into problems. Just have to make the most of it I suppose

Not to worry Cyril about differences in height.
Bernie Ecclestone and wife and Mr Speaker and Sally come to mind....:rolf::rolf::rolf:
Yes I geddit Ross, it's all a matter as to where you fit together, if you get my drift. Mind you, it also helps if the pocket, or rather wallet, of the chappie person is considerably well filled, then well ................I see Heffner has just had another lady fallen deeply in love with him. Ho hum.
The only snag with me is that not only am I quite deprived vertically, but also the wallet is a bit spare as it were, can't win, can I?

I've never had any concern about the height difference of figures. At the end of the day it is more natural, I'm 6ft2 and my wife is barely 5ft.

I admit that when I go to buy figures of people or animals that are of an unknown scale I take a Preiser figure [strike]to hold my hand[/strike] to compare to. The scale isn't really that important as long as the new figure looks about right standing near to Mr Preiser.
By the way, the yard lights look closer to being footpath to me, still good for the job at that money

I have a Lemax vicar and a Sally Army band together with several Lemax and other brand buildings. The Lemax buildings are generally much smaller than G Scale.
The camera battery is flat but I will photograph them tomorrow before most go back in the loft.

Found a spare battery.

They seem to small for use on our layout, but I've often used them in locomotives as drivers or firemen in 1:29 locos

There is a figure of a man at the seashore, with seagulls in it, (called I think "seashore pastime" who makes a good engineer leaning out the window if you cut him off the base and repaint:

Here he is in a different loco:

And this carpenter can be made into a credible fireman:

There's a guy raking leaves who can also work as a fireman if you remove his rake and insert a shovel--I can't find a picture of him at the moment but I'll look around

Difficult to find around here. Pity really, I have an opening for the "Carpenter."

I can see what's gone wrong in my post #3. he's taken his eye off the err, uhm, hje's taken his eye off the uhm ball, hasn't he!!!!! OK OK I'll shut up, sorry, no sensayuma youse guys

There are some good bargains at garden centres with 50% off their demo models but it can be worth keeping an eye on Dawsons of Clitheroe who have price reductions from time to time. http://www.dawsonsdepartmentstore.co.uk/
Some of my buildings are Premier and others Christmas buildings.
The band is the same one which welcomed the Round Robin Boxcar!

Don't forget to check out ebay, there's 40 pages of them there.

One thing I do is use the campfire in the fire box of my steamers looks really great and on a set of batteries lasts for a long time. I have done about 11 engines with it and always pick it up after xmas. Jack

Hi,

it seems, those Lemax figures are about 1 : 28 / 29, so they are more or less in scale with Piko or Aristocraft products.
Here is a picture of one together with a 1 : 22,5 scale Preiser figure http://www.fgb-berlin.de/galerie/details.php?image_id=5733&mode=search

The Skeleton figures from their Spooky Town series seem to be a bit larger. I used a few for a Halloween / Dia de los Muertes setting last year http://www.die-feldbahnsinnigen.de/forum/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=799

I also repainted their christmas marching band and use it to represent children in 1 : 22,5 scale.

Most of the time I buy them from mail order firms or find them at Ebay.

Have Fun

I'm still searching for a brass band for my as yet to be built Band Stand I had a look and found a dixie band, I could use it but I'd prefer a tradititional Bras band.

I have been looking at these too, they are much cheaper though at Mill Race Gdn Centre - £4.50

One thing to remember about Lemax figures, They aren't UV stable... If you leave them out they will fade and get more brittle. I get about 2 years between repaints and have gotten better at drilling and pinning limbs/heads... except when the bits disappear into the ballast or groundcover.

As for scale, some figures are usable in 1/29, others are 1/24-ish....

I use them on my outdoor layout. I try to remember to spray some clear UV coat on them. Might as well repaint the faces anyway before you put them out, the skin tones are awful. Seem to find fewer in the big box stores here in the US, but you can get them online quite a bit.
