LGB 2095 Diesel Prices.

Hi there guys and Gals,

I am looking at purchasing a LGB 2095 diesel. Can anyone give me a good indication of what to pay for either a new and second hand one please. They are pretty hard to find now in shops.

They are pretty hard to find here on the forum too!

I was lucky enough to get mine from the CFR 2 years ago.

Expect to pay anything from £300 - £700, depending on condition, if MTS, if sound fitted, etc....
 
For a second-hand one from a private seller you used to expect to pay between 200 and 400 GBP depending on age, condition and particular model. I bought one last year (red with grey roof and back underframe, old style split gearboxes) and paid about 240 GBP for it. But, as you say they seem incredibly scarce now, even German eBay hasn't got many and those they have seem to be at very inflated prices. I did find this one, with early (analogue) sound, at a BIN price that is still quite high but less than some of the others:

I've used this particular seller before, he seems decent and honest and ships worldwide.

Even Grootspoor aren't listing any 2095s at the moment, second-hand or new-old-stock. Basically, if you want one and see one at anything that is within your budget, grab it!

I can't believe that Marklin won't re-release this one eventually, it's such a classic LGB favourite and they do have fairly modern toolings for it (from the most recent orangey-red one with the cream roof).

I have a Red and cream one with analog sound that was one of my first loco's it's a bit scruffy with some small bits missing and broken off! My kids used to sit on it and ride around the patio on it! a marvelous bit of kit it is. I have a new body shell for it purchased/swopped with a fellow forum member to tidy it up one day............. when I find my gumption again....................
 
I bought an early yellow box, red example from a chap in Italy for £128 + £14 p&p about 5 months ago. The only draw back is one horn was broken and minimal paint wear on one of the raised roof areas, otherwise she is unblemished. She has run perfectly so far, in limited winter testing. So I guess what I'm saying is look at the less common areas, and with patience you may get a bargin.
 
I had five #2095 models from the very earliest, 1973, up until the mid-1980's (only two left now), most with the clamshell drive block. All ran as smooth as silk. Do not disregard these early models as they are easy to convert to four wire for DCC and basically nothing to remove, electrically. Loco lighting is very basic, although a friend inserted multiple 3mm led's into the clear styrene lighting fixture at each end and achieved very realistic results.

Unlike the continent, there was/is little demand for these downunder when listed on eBay.
 
I have two R/C ones and one more modern one with a digital gizmo and sound. No idea what they are as I only run analogue and battery. All three run faultlesly.
