LGB 2095 Technical info required...

Hi guys,

I've been toying with the idea for a long time of obtaining one of these loco's, and fitting new dual gauge bogies, along with battery R/C with sound etc.
I wanted to know:-
- once the LGB bogie has been removed, what are you left with in regard to mounting new bogies?

-the wheelbase and diameter of wheels?

-for loco's with LGB sound, can that be linked into an RCS R/C system?

-does the body come off the chassis easily for installing R/C, batt's etc?

-if there's a market for the LGB bogies once I've finished the conversion? And does it affect value being an old split frame unit, or a newer version?

-the going rates for second hand examples, and if anybody has one they'd like to part with? Non-runners are fine for my requirement!

Hopefully somebody on here can answer some, if not all of my questions!
And if possible, show some pic's, or if anybody has one local to me that I could come and have a look at with my tape measure...

Four screws hold the body on. I've just had one stripped down .Pity it wasn't last weekend.
Once the bogies are removed there is just a hole for the pivot.

Once the bogies are off (mine is the split box version) there is a saddle that holds the pivot pin.
The cranks have to be removed to release this saddle

There would certainly be a market for the removed LGB power bogies - I'd guess the newer type would be worth more, but even the old split-gearbox ones would probably sell!

I also can't see any reason why one with an LGB analogue sound system shouldn't have the sound working off battery power at a suitable voltage.

Good luck on finding one, though - there don't seem to be many around at the moment, and I don't think I've EVER sen a non-runner advertised - they appear to be pretty much bulletproof!

I realise LGB and non-working don't really go in the same sentence!
Is there a difference between on Digi sound card and an analogue version? Could I bypass/remove the digital element and still use the sound card with my R/C gear?
From what I've seen of LGB chassis', am I right in thinking the buhler motor casing sits behind the backs of the wheels?

Sorry, my last post might have been a bit misleading - either a digital OR analogue sound version should work fine for you in theory, because the digital sound will still work happily on analogue power (which is basically what you'll be feeding it from batteries, I guess). The only thing you might have to be careful about is if the output from whatever speed control system you use is in a suitable form for the LGB electronics to handle - I don't think they like pulse-modulated power. I'm not expert in this, however, and others here can probably advise you better on the details.
The motor does sit between (and slightly above) the wheels in most LGB gearboxes, and the wheel backs are pretty much flush against the gearbox casing (only a couple of mm clearance), so if you're trying to narrow the gauge from 45mm to something smaller (32mm?) it won't work, I'm afraid - you'll need complete new bogies I think.
