LGB 26814 Harz 2-10-2

Hello all. I am tempted to buy the new version of this loco with the pulsed smoke and cylinder smoke and wondered if anyone owns one already and can give a view on what it's like. I have looked on youtube but cannot find any vids of the latest version,only the earlier ones with retro fitted sound.I buy all my locos from Glendale usually because that way I can see them in the flesh and also see and hear them running.....also Brian has such great customer facing skills but he does not have one in stock to see. I know I can order online from Germany but as it is not exactly a cheap loco I would appreciate somebodies experience with one.

I can't help with actually seeing one or having any experience of it, Steve - but of you do eventually decide to order direct from Germany I'd wholeheartedly recommend this place:

They appear to have one actually in stock, their service is excellent and they are really friendly - plus their prices are usually some of the lowest you will find - the price they quote is just under £1400 at current exchange rate.....

I have 2 older ones and can thouroughly recomend them. I also have 2 new Marklin LGB Sound Locomotives (both Diesels) and they are great. Cannot see why the new Marklin 2-10-2 should not be any better.

The new Marklin/LGB will come with an MFX decoder. This will be fine a s long as you have MTS 3 or better control equipment.

Hi Phillip, I have MTS 3 and a Massoth handset . I have other MFX locos so no problems there.

Jump in - you will love it.
Don't worry about warranty with reputable German suppliers - other than the return post to Germany its not a problem.
Modell-land are another reputable supplier.

I would like to second Jon's recommendation of Gartenbahnshop. They have been very helpful getting items for me and their prices are always good. I also have two of the older versions of this model. They are very impressive to watch. Mine did have factory sound and decoders. One of mine had a rather unfortunate mishap where it suffered secondary electrical damage [read fried the decoder] while minding its own business in a siding. The actual problem was caused by a track cleaning loco getting stuck on an isolating rail of a reversing loop. I think it must have sent multiple shorts all over the place. I had a couple of other locos on the tracks at the time and neither they nor the track cleaner suffered any damage - just took out the most expensive object on the tracks. There must be one of those 'laws' that covers things like that. The only solution was to have it packed off to LGB to have new electronics installed - apparently they prefer to do this than sell the replacement parts to the local repair agent. So, I won't be seeing it for a few months! However, you can't blame the loco for that, it was just devilish bad luck. A new rule now exists on my layout - when the track cleaner is working, everything else comes off the tracks.

Thanks for the info, I now never leave my track cleaner running unattended after it tried to destroy itself by splitting into two parts, it must have run over a point badly and snapped the pin where it articulates
