LGB 29221 "Factory Train Set"....?

In 2006, just before everything went t*ts-up for them, LGB previewed their "Factory Train Set", 29221, representing the fullsize loco and wagons that used to sit outside their factory. Does anyone here know if this set ever actually made it into production, even for a very limited time before all the troubles? I'm assuming not, because I've never seen one for sale (a quick Googling shows a couple of old sites that have it listed, but I suspect these were "coming soon" lists published at the time). Any info would be appreciated!

Jon.

One of my reasons for asking about it is the comments on other threads about smaller, "affordable" LGB locos (or rather the lack thereof), which got me thinking that it would be great to have another small loco that wasn't a Stainz variant. Given that even if it never made it to final production, the loco in the 29221 set must have been almost ready, it would be wonderful if Marklin could resurrect the moulds..... ah well, dreaming is free!

ive not heard that it ever was actually produced
i was on the look out to buy

Wouldn't surprise me if the one and only prototype went in that LGB archive sell-off auction last year?

Jon.

If you're interested I do have for sale a LGB 20761 Spremberger loco that I bought new from Chalk Garden Rail - they fitted an LGB MTS chip before sending it to me.
It has done only 15 mins running on my indoor tabletop setup.

Am I right in thinking that only the loco was going to be an actual new model, all the wagons were just repaints of standard LGB pieces? I've just checked again in the big hardback 2006 catalogue, the only one that 29221 was shown in (and the last LGB catalogue before it all went horribly wrong), and it does indeed have the little tiny "pre-production prototype shown" caption next to the picture. So as Nick says, there may well have only ever been the one hand-built prototype - it probably never got as far as having moulds made, which means we'll never see it. A great shame, would have been a lovely little loco....

Thanks David, but I've got the chipped black Borsig/Spremberger that came in my original MTS start set - when I mentioned that it would be nice to have the loco, I wasn't thinking so much of myself, more that it would be good for the LGB range if there was another little narrow-gauge loco generally available.

yes just the loco-as i recall the set was a covered hatch gon and a DB style short box-repaints

There were at least two test shots of the Lenz Typ I Vulcan steam loco.

One is on the GBDB website, the other (unpainted plastic) was on MIBA or the like.

A little birdie told me it was still on "the to do list". And it would make sense for Marklin, it could be done in FKB, DR, DEV and PKP paint....

And the 4039 car that LGB suggested with the Spreewald loco is actually an ex FKB car...also living at the DEV.

Of DEV interest (and low cost) is the DEV's Deutz V3 diesel by TrainLine45. Not sure why this potential offering is not getting more press?

At the moment, the Train-Line 45 models are only "announcements"

Regarding small locos, you can always buy the pmt kit to dress up a Stainz or have a look at Modellbau Heyn offerings, to get kits for a lovely LGB Otto and Porter conversions.

Readers of the German magazine GARTENBAHN can follow a story, how a German modelrailroading club (Halberstadt) simply developed parts, to built a Fabrikzug Franzburg out of a Stainz with spoked wheels. They sell those parts.

If you happen to have deeper pockets, you can always buy a live steam Franzburg.

For those not knowing for what we are talking about:

29221.jpg

The wagons are the same as the OEG goods set that is begin delivered this year.. Only the orange car is exchanged for a brown flatcar... (And the decals are changed a bit)

If you are seriously interested, you can always contact that modelrailroad club. They have a few retired folks with plenty of time at hand, which are happy to make some extra pocket money by assembling kits for people, willing to pay for it.

Most garden railroaders are too old to wait for Märklin, Piko or the Chinese to make what they want. Everybody with a PC can learn how to make files for lasering, etching or rapid prototyping.

Speak for yourself old boy!:rolf::rolf:

Stanz dress up kit sounds interesting what's involved?

Well the loco in question and the kof were at similar stages and the kof has only just been made available. Would be a great shame if it never goes into production.

Ask the makers at the adress given above. I think, it takes approx 200 Euro plus an old Stainz with spoked wheels. Plus many rivets for the green variant. I don´t know, if the brass signs are included.

Do you have a link for this Garrett?

Is it the similar to the Lilliput V3? (which is actually a Davenport)
