Daft question I know these are now second hand items if you can get one, at a reasonable price. ( I am still looking.)

But I am just wondering:-

if they ever came in green, (be that in real life or model form.)

and how easy is a repaint to green, and where can the relevant paint/transfers be sourced from.

Just an idea to go with this lot

Repainting to green from red should be much easier than the opposite route as green is one of the most solid colours, if not THE most solid colour, whilst red is semi-transparent.

The RhB has never had green restaurant cars. The early Mitropa ones were a dark cherry red (as per the retro LGB model) and some have appeared in recent years in blue/special livery - eg the Gourmino" car or the red and anthracite Bernina livery; the LGB 3068 model has always been red, however.

These cars used to run as part of the original Glacier Express consists.

In the early days, the Glacier Express would have been 2-3 red coaches of the former Furka Oberland Bahn and a Restaurant car, attached to a regular RhB service train of green coaches. A loco change would take place at Disentis/Munster where the FO met the RhB (as it still does today).

Of course, nowadays, a fleet of dedicated Glacier Express paranama vehicles are used, but sometimes, you will see a blue Gourmino Restaurant Car marshalled between the 1st and 2nd class coaches in the rake....
