LGB 46672 sound module

Hi All, a few years ago I purchased an LGB 46672 box car second hand unfortunately it had the sound module taken out. I finally found a sound module for it from MTS-line in Germany. The aim was to have it track-powered with DCC rather than powered by the locomotive socket. Attempted this to no avail using LGBs 46703, nil short detected.

Does anyone have any advice or experience with the module or modules from that era?

Thanks in advance, Tumble 99

I would have thought that the sound unit was variable DC powered from the loco.

So it won't work from DCC track power without a decoder before it....

Digital means the sound is recorded digitally, it don't work on DCC unless modified.

Thanks for putting me right on this.

That would be why I found this conflicting advice (to "plug it into an LGB locomotive") in a web search (linking to a page deemed "too dangerous to view" by my browser!) . . .

I have this coke car and it does come from the factory with DC and DCC capability. I added metal wheels and power pickup to mine and changed the sound CV's to enable different function keys for sound activation. Look at CV 33-40. So now I can have 3 sound cars at the same address and select sounds accordingly!! Also note the blue chicken dance car is digital. Note all LGB sound cars used the 9 volt battery for sound continuation, not playing startup. The grey connector block and the 4 pins to the right are for track power. SO, 3 sets of wire can be connected, one set for track power, another set for power to go to the top end of the car to feed another car or even get power form an engine.
To test for sound one must tie the 9 volt battery tied to the grey block or a pair of the 4 pins.

According to the GBDB website . . .

. . . but it does need a 9v battery attached to make it work.

Hi Dan, sorry for the late reply likewise I have set it up with wheel pickup, just a few questions regarding programming

1. Is its native address 3?
2. What DCC setup are you using and did you require a computer interface for it to program the car?

Regards Edward
