LGB 5012-N vs. LGB 5012-1 question

I'm sort of needing an LGB 5012-N, but am wondering if an LGB 5012-1 is sufficient to fulfill the same function. What exactly does an LGB 5012-N have that an LGB 5012-1 does not? I'm hoping that the only difference is the lack of housing with the LGB 5012-1, because I imagine I could make my own housing. But is there anything else missing from the LGB 5012-1 which would prevent full functionality equivalent to that of the 5012-N?

If you look at the description of the 5012-N (2A Electronic Speed Controller) in this link you will see it contains a 5012-1. The 5012-N has the trackside hut and track connecting leads etc.
