Can anyone please remind me of the voltage of the lights in the LGB 21852?
Thanks

Thanks Steve. That's good as I have some 5V ones.

Agreed - checked my loco's manual.

I wonder, are there different types of lamp. The 5V one I have fitted is like a searchlight compared to the originals. It looks physically identical.
This same light has a homemade lens, could that be causing the different effect?

Hi Keith
Think they are the 18v ones but I could be wrong,( if they screw in they are if they are the ones with the 2 thin wires they are 5v ones)
I have just got a Black one ( Gubbins version!!) it came from South wales!! and is Mallet number 6 in a long line of Mallets!!

The push-in bulbs (with the two short wires) can be either 5v or 24v - to tell them apart, the 5v ones have a FLAT end to the bulb (the "top" end opposite the wires) while the 24v type have a ROUNDED end.
The old screw-in (usually yellow) bulbs to fit much older locos are, as Steve said, 18v.

Jon.

The originals and the replacement are two-pin flat headed. I wonder why the new one is S-O-O bright - and blazing white?

The loco isn't mine BTW.
I have found another enigma, it is fitted with a Massoth sound card but I can't raise any sounds from it. Apparently, when it was last used in October it worked OK. It is stored in an unheated brick garage. I am aware of the dangers of condensation affecting MTS gear in such a place but had not heard of locos being affected. Could that be the cause?

I am surprising myself!!!! After having been into LGB since'75 but taking a 2 year break from G scale
it is surprising how much one forgets!! (or is it just old age!!)

It's a possibility Keith. Is it just the one bulb which is bright or are they all too bright? I was wondering if the loco has had its original board isolated and now has the 5v lights being fed 18v either direct or via the default setting on a DCC chip.

Just the one lamp which is overbright.

Dun that, the silence is deafening.&:

All is revealed! Saintly Phil, AKA Philbahn checked the loco on his PC based Massoth system and discovered:
A) the loco was set to Parallel Only, my system is Serial. It is now reset to Parallel/Serial and works fine and
B) the lamps are 24V. I removed a lens - I didn't want to do this previously as it isn't my loco, and confirmed the other working ones have round topped lamps. The one I replaced had failed because it was the wrong voltage!
