LGB Feldbahn loco

My little feldbahn loco has got grease on the drive belt.:crying:
Is it worth my trying to clean off? Meths; propan 2 ol?
If it is not recoverable are spares still around?
It looks to be a touch intricate to replace.

I believe the inability to source the drive belt was one of the reasons the last offering from LGB was never released. I think you'll find it very hard to get another, Keith. I bought a couple of spare locos, just in case

If LGB did use a standard belt this site may help:-

The LGB belt ought to be metric. If there is any printing on the flat side that may help identify it?
Count the number of teeth on the belt and also measure the belt pitch. 5mm or 8mm would be good.

Let us know how you get on.

Cheers

Many thanks for that. On first examination yesterday I couldn't see anything printed on the belt but I will rotate it and recheck.

My initial, superficial clean has helped and the loco will now pull 3 Summertime coaches around the Aristo 20" diam track without "burring".

keith what were the symptoms /problems?

as the loco has a worm to gear drive on one of the axles-and then power transfer via the belt to the other axel-i wonder what the burring was

as the belt has teeth , i would think grease doesnt hurt
in fact i actually put a touch on mine (Olomano) to quiet things down

as mentioned the belts are essential and rare
-i wouldnt dare touch it with any chemical other than mild dish soap to clean-

while these locos were shown in the catalog often pulling 4-5 cars

i have repeatedly been told by the former LGBOA techs that these little engines shouldnt be taxed load wise
they think 2 cars is the max
for me, its 3-4 so longas on level only, otherwise 2
-and i now follow this religiously

I though on this, and I'll have to check my one, I think the rods are loose fits so they are really only decorative, the drive to the front axle being provided by the belt. But I wonder if bushes could be put into the side rods so they where working and thus the belt won't really be needed?

I have only just seen your post , sorry.
I got the impression that the burring was the belt jumping on the drive gear on the wheel.
Since removing what was undoubtedly grease from the axle bearings which had got onto the belt and the gear using only my finger(!) the loco has been running happily with 3 Summertime coaches on level track around Aristo 20" diam' curves for several hours at a time for the last 3 days.
I will investigate the suggested sources for a replacement belt but for the moment at least I will leave well alone.
What I did find was that the Summertime coaches, the ones with the reversible seat backs would not negotiate the curves due to a combination of the body mounted coupling on the back of these locos and the projecting roof ends clashing. This stalled the loco and presumably caused the belt to slip. I had to substitute the more utilitarian 3041 coaches, those with the fore and aft seating and use a paper clip coupling in order to run the loco front first.
Still, the 2 and 3 year olds are happy with it which is all that matters.

Yes the rods are loose fit held in place by hex bolts, small headed ones at the rear and larger ones on the front axle.

those 2 and 3 years olds know thier stuff!!

glad to hear all is well withyour FRR loco

Did anyone ever go and count the teeth, pitch and length of the drive belt? I have two belt drive locos (Chloe and Olomana) but never yet had to have the bottom off these as they've been super smooth reliable little guys.

Reason I ask is I came across some timing belts at http://www.motionco.co.uk/pulleys-belts-timing-belts-c-25_38.html but no idea whether one of these offerings would match? I've used this company before for replacement gears.

Maybe I'll go take a look at one of mine later just out of curiousity, and they could probably do with a service anyway so might as well do that while the WSL is closed due to snow.

Nick that is another site worth keeping a note of.
I will have a look at my loco tonight and see if I can check the size. pitch etc. Currently it is running faultlessly (famous last words - I hope not)
