LGB Forneys

I'm rebuilding my two L.G.B. Forneys, as I have now found a couple of pictures of Baldwin 3 foot gauge examples that look very similar to the LGB versions Pictures from Baldwin archives. see below.

Before some one points out that the LGB version is not a true Forney. I know the LGB versions behave like Fairlies ie both bogies are pivoted.

The 0-6-0 tank is the other loco on the Mole Valley Short Line. Alyn

The pictures in the last post are the locos, as running, before any new modifications.

The top photo is the loco modelled by LGB and is a 2 foot gauge prototype; the Eustis Railroad was incorporated into the Sandy River & Rangeley sytem in Maine.
I suspect that your second photo is a smaller gauge than 3' too but not knowing the loco I can't be sure, all the 3' gauge forneys that I've seen photos of though have inside frames although the cab looks like it may be 3' gauge.

i dunno these two look a lot like the 3 foot version-if it is 3 ft-i agree about the inside outside frame point
unless of course that was a standard gauge frame made to fit somethign smaller
but
stack, dome spacing, pilot -looks kinda close to me
this is one color scheme that still has me .......wondering what to do......and wishing that steam dome wa a bit shorter

not that the color sent me-
bought two a few years back on closeout-these are chinese, and not without minor quality issues,
primarily the plastic and screws-both seem to be a bit lesser quality,
that blue is perhapd made worse by the red-might look great with everything else black , some lining, and , soemthing to tone down the blue

so i did a little switch around with the body parts -oddly i had these to re-do a stainz into a forney -which i never got around to -added to pony too

Here's mine. It cost me £25. It's a bashed Otto play set loco. I need to reduce the cylinders, so big they are ridiculous.

Someplace a have a photo of an attractive forney that worked on one of the smaller Colorado 3' gauge lines for a while and I'd like a model of that has it has a much fatter boiler than the 2' gauge types giving it a dumpy powerful look and inside frames. It would also make a good live model due to the larger boiler diameter.

i think that was on the Globeville or some Denver tramway commuter line
i know and have the pic in a book
not only chnuky but higher drivers and a slant pilot at both ends

forneys were also used for overhead railways int eh US around the turn of the last century

woderwick-thas a very nice build-love the smaller domes and smaller drivers-and is that cab from a Lyn? looks nicely proportioned all round

The New York Elevated Railroad had a large fleet of small standard gauge forneys and when it closed they were sold to industrial lines all over the US and there are still a few left rusting away in Alaska.

There is some film on you tube of the New york elevated (late 1890's)shot by the Edison Film co. Alyn

Pictures of the Forneys on the elevated (standard gauge). Alyn
PS fine on the 2 foot gauge forney on the Eustis R.R. Maria was a 3 foot gauge Forney.

Alyn,
a member on Largescale Central forum modified either an Accucraft Ruby or Forney live steam to replicate the South Side Transit loco. Bronson Tate Architectural Models did a cabin kit for him. He posted a few videos on You-tube.

A long time ago, I had aspirations to replicate the elevated coaches. There is something like 24 windows each side (basically, two Bachmann coaches end to end).

I cleaned up some of the bright work, and changed the smoke stack on one of the locos, they now represent two Forney Locomotives on a preserved railroad / short line. All remains is to fix running numbers;- I will make some decals. Alyn

Nice shots, I must get my cylinders altered.

Well Wod, one of the photos from Alyn does show a Forney with pretty large cylinders in proportion to its body. In comparison to yours there is not too big a difference
