hi all ,
I got a LGB Meyer loco with sound , Problem is when the loco is placed on the track the sound starts immediately and cannot be controlled in any way. On top of this the engine will not move any way at all :@ , The control system I have is the LGB MTS 3 .
Any help with this bl##dy loco would be gratefully recieved

Cheers

Steve

Have you had it working in the past?

Nor sure If the Meyer is using a separate sound module board that the decoder is feeding The sound module could be also DCC controllable and can be altered by programming the CV.
But I could be wrong

It could just need the decoder reprogramming Stephen. I am presuming that it is dcc equiped and that you are running DCC/MTS. Do you know how to read the CV values on the loco?
There are many more far more skilled LGB dcc/mts members on here who will ride to the rescue.

Hi, many thanks for your reply...yes the loco is dcc fitted with sound, using the LGB MTS 3.
I have no idea at all how to alter the CV on the loco, !!!!
Thanks for the info...steve

I believe there's a CV that restores the default setting to the chip. However this may adversely affect the sounds so I suggest you do a bit of research into this before attempting it.
Another idea is to remove the superstructure and the undo and unplug the power units. Fix two temporary electrical bridges to the terminals pins of each unit as shown and see if they run on analogue. If possible measure the current taken during this test. If you can't find a fault you could take a few photos of the internals and post them on here to help with diagnosis.

Have you tried running it on analogue power? If you have an old analogue controller around (eg one from a start set) just put the loco on a yard of test track (or rollers if you have some), and see if it will move. If it doesn't, then I'd try Neil's suggestion of testing each power bogie separately on analogue, disconnected from the decoder.

One other thought - may be a silly question, but have you tried setting the loco to a different address number? If it came from someone else and this is the first time you've run it, then it's quite possible that it may not be currently programmed to the number you think it is - which just MIGHT be a very simple explanation of why the standing sounds starts up as soon as it's on the track (which it will do if the sound was left turned on the last time it was run), but it won't respond to any controls!

Jon.

I too would try it on analogue before tinkering further, at least to test basic movement. The hint on connecting the joiners is a decent one, though remember you have two motor blocks, but it may be simpler to extract the motors and check that they are working OK first. Get the works diagram from Champex-Linden if unsure:

Alternatively if you can get from Bath to near Malvern, give me a shout and we'll see what can be done!

Top answer alway check the simple thing first:thumbup:

Also, is the switch in the cab set to just sound & lights, with the motors turned off? I believe it should be in position 3 for everything to be working.

Many thanks for the help so far..

Ive tried all the loco addresses available on the MTS system (1-23) ?..never gave it a thought to check the switch !!!..will do that and keep my fingerd crossed

Thankyou to all of you for your time and assistance, steve

No problem - hopefully it just MIGHT be something that simple!
If not, then do you know what control system your late friend that you got the loco from was using? If he had something like a full Massoth Dimax system (and had a large loco stable), then he could very well have been using loco addresses above 23, which you can't access with your MTS3. Have you tried using the simple address reprogramming, putting it back to something like the LGB default address 03?

Please let us all know what happens, we like to be kept informed...... ;)

Steve, have you tried address 0 yet? Or the Analogue mode 0+22?

It could be that the loco address is programmed to one higher than 22 using a Dimax system....

Its a shame you are so far away, or we could arrange to get it on my programmer/test track and read out your data

Think first of all we need to decide if its factory fitted or seperate.
Steve give ue the loco number . Should be on the motor bogie
