Lgb Mikado With My New Aristocraft Heavyweight Coaches

That's a hell of a beast! I must resist large mainline locomotives.......

They look great together !!!

I can ditto
They look great together !!!

I can ditto that.
Sometimes I am inclined to run narrow and mainline gauge stock at the same time.
The only thing is that the scale of my loggers is 1:20.3 and the mainline locos like me Aristo 2-8-8-2 is 1:29...
But they still look good passing each other... you just have to suspend the disbelief!

Congratulations, those are beautiful looking models - but maybe it's just the angle of the shot that seems to exagerate the difference in the scale of the coaches (1:29) and the scale of the loco (1:22.5)

I don't know, John. American steam locos were rather large and sometimes had much more height than the coaches they pulled. As for the LGB Mikado, I don't think they are truly 1:22.5. There has been many posts, both here and on other forums about LGB's rubber ruler. Some have said that the Mikado is closer to 1:29.

I have an example of both the LGB and the Aristo Mikado. The LGB model definitely has more "bulk" but I wouldn't say it's 1:22.5, maybe somewhere between 1:29 and 1:25 ish.

1;29, 1;25th - Standard gauge, G scale often seems to be in that region.

Rather nice though - whatever!

And of course 1:32 is one of the most popular G scale standard gauge sizes if you accept that G stands for 'garden' and not 'gross' as in Lehmann Gross Bahn .... :)

I think the OP's 1:29 coaches would probably look better behind a gauge 1 locomotive - especialy if the loco was built to the old, outdated 10 mm scale - which is 1:30.5.
