LGB motor block construction

Hi all,

Does anyone know How LGB axles are assembled in the power blocks? I know on Piko the gear split the axle in the sense the axle of each wheel sits each side of the plastic gear which acts as an insulating spacer.
Reason I ask is I want to convert an LGB power unit to gauge 3 (63.5mm gauge). I thought GRS could do it but it appears not, so not sure the project will work as I have no lathe.

Thanks

Si

LGB axles are one piece with the insulation provided by the plastic wheel centers.
Early wheels were relatively loose fitted and secured by one screw each. Later ones rely on splines and an interference fit.

How do GRS power their own Gauge 3 locos? Do they build their own power blocks of some sort, or is it a simple frame chassis with an exposed motor driving straight to one axle gear?

Jon.
