Hi,

Does anyone know where/if I can get more of these?
LGB starter carriage.jpg

This came with a starter set and I was hoping to make up a small train of them, however the closest I have been able to find are

Which are still nice, but a little different to the one I already have.

Thanks

Phil

Try Modell-Land in Germany (www.modell-land.de) - they are very good for supplying individual items out of split sets, and may have one or two of those available. Grootspoor in Holland is another possibility. There was a separately-sold brown version of this particular coach made (but not with DR markings, I think), but I believe the green ones are only found in the sets.
Don't be afraid of ordering online from Germany, Holland etc - the dealers over there are very reliable and easy to deal with, postage is remarkably reasonable in most cases and there are some huge savings to be made. Check out the huge amount of LGB available on eBay.de..... ;)

Thanks Jon,

They did indeed have a couple so hopefully a couple will be winging their way here shortly.

Just thought I`d post a follow up for any other newbies who maybe a little tentative about ordering from abroad.  As Jon suggested I used modell-land.de and I haven`t been disappointed.  Their prices were very reasonable and were shipped promptly at reasonable rates using UPS.  My only minor gripe was that the only option was to pay by bank transfer but you can`t have everything.

Anyway I`m very pleased and the cars arrived today packaged well and with all the accessories.  As you can see from this photo it has been separated from the main starter set using a hot wire so they were shipped in their polystyrene carton with protective sleeve.

And here they are united with my original car

So now I have two reasonable trains to run :) I have had a blast this afternoon with the boy (4)

Modell Land will take pay pal if you ask them.

Interesting!
I was thinking the other day that i would love a small rake of the ones with the silver roof that you pictured as being 'not quite right'.

Last year or the year before LGB did a 3 pack set of them for about £200 but they've changed the set now to include that baggage car.

My last experience of buying from Germany (although it was to do with DHL's incompetence) involved £300 worth of carriages being delivered to an adress 15 miles away from us (an address that was not even remotely like ours), luckily the people were good enough to find a way of making contact with us. I know many people order from Germany all the time though so might have to give it another try some time soon.

I have good experiences buying from ModelLand and others in Germany. The only problems I have had like you is with DHL in this country. ModelLand used UPS instead of DHL for my last order.

Most seem to get on with Modell-Land fine..
However, I still have not had a reply to the query as to where my order is.

Glad your coaches arrived safely, Phil, and the new rake looks great! :)
As Dutchelm Mike notes, ML will take a Paypal payment - if you place your order online, they will send you an invoice, and you can pay it by simply sending money via Paypal to their email address. I agree it is a little annoying that they don't specify or explain this anywhere!
As PhilP comments, the only downside of them is that they do seem to be quite terrible at answering emails..... >:(

I've had many packages (including probably half a dozen locos and a huge handbuilt wooden station!) sent from Germany via DHL, and never had a problem with one - touch wood.... DHL themselves do not actually handle the delivery at this end - because DHL actually IS the German post office now, they do the shipping to the UK and then hand off to our own beloved ParcelFarce to make the delivery to the customer. I know PF comes in for some stick at times, but I have to say that our local delivery driver is very good and is now quite used to delivering big parcels to me.... ;)

I recommended Modell-Land for these coaches because they seem happy to split sets, but for regular list items there are many other very good German suppliers - one I've used several times is Der Lokschuppen Dortmund (on eBay.de as "Modellbahn-Manni") and they've always been fantastic, answering all emails and questions very quickly (and in English, though as a courtesy I usually send the original query in both English and German via Google Translate).
