At the toe end of my R1 points is a short metal strip connecting the stock rails to the switch rails.

Is the metal strip supposed to be connected to the stock rails please? One of mine may have come adrift.

Thanks,

SW

Yes, one of the 2 paths to get power to the "points" (a set of points is what we call the entire switch), but apparently the moving rails are called points in both countries.

The other path for power come from the hinge location itself, which is normally not as reliable.. thus many switches/turnouts are designed with 2 paths for power to the points themselves.

Have a look at my for sale points where I have in effect replaced this and the other connections by soldered jumper wires as they are not reliable in the Garden long term. Despite the Drinen and Drausen boast by LGB.

You could do the same with a Massoth Clamp cut in half to save on Soldering. 1 clamp would do a point.
