LGB Rio Grande Mogul

It was not until the late 2000`s that LGB provided a `bumble bee` Mogul to accompany their yellow coaches which had a production time that dated back to around 1982 and up to the early 2000`s.  They released a "Lake George & Boulder" Mogul circa-1989,  but never released the `full` length coaches to suit.

Having a collection of D&RGW cars in bumble bee livery (circa-late 1940`s/1950`s),  I wanted a loco other than my modified Bachmann 4-6-0 to haul the cars.  These two locomotives started life as LGB #2119D models (Lake George & Boulder) and were mkodified to represent a `Rio Grande` loco, although in reality such a loco did not exist.

This afternoon, looking through my collection I stumbled upon a couple of stillborn projects.  Some years ago I modified both locomotives and fitted decals from Microscale.  The chassis were modified to enable decoder installation and there the projects stalled due lack of funds.  The second loco was not even reassembled, but hopefully both will see the light of day again.

The first loco received black wheels and a plow to differentiate it from the other.  I left the grey wheels on the other loco as I have a further Lake George & Boulder tender so that I could alternate between the `Rio Grande` version and the Lake George version.  I even had decals made so that I could redecal some yellow coaches in the "Lake George & Boulder` livery to run with the loco. All good plans of mice and men.  Let us hope that it is not too many more years before fruition.
