Lgb Stainz Batteryised

Rik

That's very impressing pulling power for a small 0-4-0 locomotive..

You will not regret it !

Tidy conversion. The gubbins in the trailing car is so much tidier than mine!

This weekend at our monthly Garden Railway club meeting in Brisbane I am delivering a Stainz into which I was asked to install a switch to shut off the annoying factory sound.
Never having seen one before I was musing on how to go about it when I watched your video on batteryising one.
In one segment the lok was running in silent mode. Aha!! thinks I. Perhaps there is already a switch in there. Sho nuff!! there is. Problem solved.
Thanks for sharing.

Fantastically nest installation, the size of deltang components make RC a real possibility for nearly all sizes of locos.

Every time I see your posts/blog I get tempted to ditch my existing planet t5 system and go over deltang stuff

Dan

I've tried both. There's nothing at all wrong with the planet, except for the number of batteries that you need in the transmitter but the Deltang is definitely more flexible and potentially has far more features.

Excellent. The kit you sent me for my Stainz works a treat too :)
batteries in a converted Toytrain sound tender, power via the aux socket likewise
as in your video, very controllable and runs for hours reliably, havent managed to run it all the way down yet
mine still has the el cheapo sound too - useful as you can tell where the engine is when you're doing something else, such as steaming up

Thanks folks for the feedback. It is great to see the Stainz back in action after sitting on the shelf for a few years. Now trying to decide whether to repaint her in PLR livery, or keep her pristine. Also considering removing the weight from the boiler and installing three 18650 li-ions - but then I would lose the adhesion provided by the weight.

Decisions, decisions!

Rik, the batteries would go some way to providing the weight removed. Perhaps you could stuff bits of lead in every available space to make up the shortfall. As for the repaint, go for it. So many Stainz around, why worry? I wonder how many LGB produced?

How many? - LOTS!!!

Am I the only one who sees a different word to 'batteryised', everytime this thread pops up?
:eek:;):rofl::rofl:

Rik,
I took all the weight out of this little bloke's boiler and put 6 NiMH batteries in the boiler and another 3 in the water side tank it weighs almost the same as before and it pulls well.

It has a Hobbyking ESC in the coal bunker with the Reciever sans covering is glued to the boiler backhead.

Direction is set by a switch under the water tank with a ON/Charge switch under the coal bunker. Not complete remotely controllable, just speed, but the way I use this loco as a just set and forget one, it works for me.

A small ESC with Fwd/Rev built in eg a robot ESC would be the next mod I would do in the future if I change the way I use the loco.

The weathering of the boiler is the result of a faulty spray can of Matt Black, the paint did not mix well even though the marble was rattling well.
