LGB streetcar....

I'm so pleased the LGB streetcar I purchased for a rousing chorus of the "trolley song" has arrived airmail...
Ok so a few questions for the LGB tram tragics out there.
Has anyone converted the headlights to LED? If so a few pointers would be good..
How do you get the body in halves to get to the internal passengers ( to remove them) and remove the internal lighting?
I have to increase the height of the bow collector to comply with my overhead height, I worked out how to get it apart, set it vertically, push down till the springs flatten then twist, I propose to cut it as close to the base as practical then extend with some brass tube to the length I need, about 30mm
It runs very nicely on 13.8v, has a neat short wheelbase so that my innovative vibrating track cleaners will not derail. The sideframes will also be able to be copied to make a set for the overhead trailer its going to tow.

I had the very same questions a few years ago. The clear story of the roof lifts out with some slight pressure on it's ends, the clear story, that is. This gives you access to the passenger compartment.

I converted the interior lighting to LEDs. I also installed LED headlights. This is the LGB unpowered trailer that I installed a motor block and batteries in. It's supposed to be a third rail powered unit, as I got rid of my catenary system a few years ago. You can see the blue Li-on battery in the driver's compartment.

Ok that looks neat and crisp ( as we all expect from you) but it raises another question. In your other video "short train" there is a crossbench car with the conductor actually on the footboard. Where did you get the cross bench car?
Yep good the clerestory came off and so did the roof, it had been glued on at some time..
That lets me glaze the clerestory.
OK I'm away... I'll set up a separate thread on how to convert an LGB tram into a working scrubber car. It has enough room inside it to have R/C, sound everything I could even make it battery.
Let the razor sawing begin competently assisted by Mr Dremel...

Trev, I presume you are referring to the Field Passenger car. These are LGB products. The Grizzly Flats versions fetch quite a bit of money on Evilbay. Then there are the generic versions, of which I have two, that go for more reasonable sums. Usually around the fifty dollar range. They don't come up often however.

Yes done, the headlight, it is a warm white 5mm led, the taillight remained the same, the little PCB was dispensed with and the head and tail light were connected anode to cathode and will pick up their current from the motor so that when the polarity changes the lights will also change.  I also made up brass reflectors which I initially tinned and polished but I removed the fake chrome, the polished brass gives a more  realistic glow.
