Having fallen in love with the 2012 promised blue centre cab from LGB, I wondered whether they have done any other colours than red. I have seen an orange RHB on a site somewhere claiming it was for the Swiss market only.
Any pointers gratefully received.

:)they made a green one too... factury fitted with sound

I always assumed that green was a respray, nice, but presumably not cheap. Looking at that tidy blue/cream re paint makes me wonder whether to have a bash although would prefer to have some transfers/decals ready beforehand.
Thanks guys

I have had both the red V51 (#2051 and #2051S) and V52 and am now purchasing the orange RhB V51, LGB #25510. The model was made specifically for the Swiss and U.S. markets and represents a loco delivered to the RhB in 1989. Comes standard with factory onboard MTS decoder.

I believe Steinman has the orangey RhB version?

The original was never a DB loco.

This is number 241 in the RhB fleet. It was rebuilt with a Cummins engine in the '90s.

It used to belong to the Brohltalbahn during the 70s/80s and thus was painted in the green and white livery of Mike's version.

Before that it worked for a cement plant. It was the basis for the design of the DB's V51/52 locomotives. At that time it was 860 mm gauge.

Only 3 V51s (750 mm gauge) and 2 V52s (1000 mm) were ever made for DB, and I believe one of these was regauged....

There is the orange version, there a couple of these running on railways in Blackpool despite the best efforts of a certain forum memeber to relocate them to East Lancashire.

And it looks impressive if you have a gathering of V51's and V52's

Funny, that's more lined up there then exist in real life! The blue One in the 2012 catalog does look nice, the Rugen island one I think?

Looking at the picture of the loco on the wikipedia link that Gizzy posted, it appears to tower above the steam loco behind it, akin to the Piko Harzkamel. I assume therefore that the LGB version has been "adjusted" to fit in with their other stock?

All except one were regauged. All except one are still operational.

The original MAK loco was regauged from its original 860mm to 1000mm for use on the Brohltalbahn and RhB. It still runs on the RhB.

V51 901 was regauged from 750mm to 760mm for use on the StLB in Austria then regauged back to 750mm for use on the RuKB.

V51 902 has stayed on one of its own original lines since being built and so has always been 750mm.

V51 903 was regauged with swap bogies for maintenance work in Southern Spain (1000mm narrow gauge / 1435mm standard gauge / 1668mm Spanish broad gauge). It has since been repatriated with V51 902 on the Oschle Museumbahn and will be put back to its original 750mm.

V52 901 and V52 902 were both regauged to 1435mm for use on local private lines to recoup the local grant that was issued to build the locomotives which were deemed not to have repayed their purchase price for the region. V51 901 had a larger cab fitted to make it more standard gauge sized but looked hideous http://www.loks-aus-kiel.de/images/basic/gmdr_5325_51.jpg . It eventually found itself in the hands of a private maintenance company in Italy. V51 902 was not so lucky. Despite keeping its original profile and eventually being regauged back to 1000mm for use on the Italian FGC narrow gauge route, it was later to be rebuilt as a self propelled snow plough, but this came to nothing and the loco was apparently cut up for scrap.

No, the LGB version scales out correctly but gauged at a scale 1000mm so actually a V52. It's LGB's coaches that aren't correct. LGB's coaches are too high which is why the U Class steam loco cab was stretched out of proportion.

Part of the LGB coach problem are that the wheels are too big although feldbahn wheels are too small. I think Bachmann do a wheel size somewhere in between which helps but you may then need to modify the coupling heights. However, a friend has used the metal wheels from LGB's shorty tender that they sell with those stubby 0-4-0 loco starter sets with no coupling modifications necessary. If upgrading from plastic to metal wheels anyway, it's worth going for the mid sized wheels.

Just received my as new LGB #25510 RhB #241 diesel locomotive. This is the large cab number version (no sound). Comes standard with a MTS large onboard decoder. It runs like a charm. My only quibble is that the body colour is very transparent, allowing the headlight glow to shine through the hoods at either end. The earlier cranberry red 'DB' version also had this issue. Only a minor problem. Will eventually install a Massoth 'S' decoder.

The loco was missing the additional yellow grabrail package, but I prefer the black grabrails fitted as standard, although not prototypical.

Did they usually have alternative handrails on this one? Thought that was just the Krok as I've not seen alternatives in the box for two I've seen. If anyone does want to paint the bendy plastic handrails then rc car paints designed for their very flexible Lexan bodyshells work well. You need to use 3-4 coats to get a solid colour but they are tough.

Paul,
extra handrails was common on the V52. The orange RhB was factory supplied from new with black grabrails fitted and a set of yellow rails to fit. The red V52 from a few years ago came with black grabrails fitted and red rails as an option to install.

Thanks Tim, must be commonly lost as I've looked at a couple of the RhB ones and neither had them. I did consider doing a full conversion of my DB one to RhB spec including modifying the grilles etc but i've put it on hold now Om models are coming so the V52 is currently in the reserve collection.
