Lionel rolling stock compatability

Once in awhile, I come across Lionel freight cars on Ebay. I like the look of them, short. However, I have wondered how well they track. How much play is in the trucks. My track work is pretty good. Not perfect mind you. I have had some trouble with LGB longer wheel base two axel freight cars of the 335 mm length. . They like to derail where there may be a slight dip in one rail. Hence, I don't run these type cars. I prefer the LGB Toytrain cars, and field railway cars.
Also, will Lionel cars accept hook and loop couplers?
Is the height of their couplers the same as LGB and Bachmann?

I run a couple of the thomas the tank trucks, both made by lionel without any problems, coupling work with each other but are slightly stiffer.
