I have a K-28 fitted with R/C. Mike Darby at Chuffed2bits did it for me. I believe DJB do a whistle that fits between the frames, assuming Accucraft are using the same frames and running gear as the K-27

I hope this helps. Max.

pretty similar size to work with,,,

so you have the batteries under the cab floor,,,

receiver the same but further to the back

and is that the servo for fwd and reverse below the regulator servo,,

i like the regulator servo,, i have seen some with a chain and sprocket but that looks a tidy job

whats the silver thing dangling over the cab and do you need an Ariel

many thanks as those pics as they show so much

Correct on all points daveyb. The bit sticking up is the charger socket. Not sure how the ariel is done, I think it is down below the superstructure. Neat addition is the Q/R coupling from the tender water feed. very handy if you are not keeping the loco/tender in unit on a dedicated carrier all the time. Watch out for the valve timing going out as there is no positive location like on a Roundhouse loco.Take a picture each side to remind you how it is set up - another useful tip from Mike.

Thinking about getting one of DJB's whistles fitted and a "bark box" to mine. Max.

thanks max thats really useful info

mine is supposed to have a summerlands chuffer fitted, is the bark box the same think or something to supplement the exhaust
good tip about the valve timing, will do that,,,

the quick release looks like a john guest style air or plumbing fitting,,, i take it that you usually have to disconnect with a spanner

is the whistle easy to do, it must involve some soldering and cutting into a steam pipe and fitting a servo
i think i saw a k37 with a tripple chime whistle fitted, but steam came from the front,,, and the cab area which
confused me,,,,,

Can't remember what the Q/R fitting is called but no nuts involved....just push either of the blue bits towards it's body and either pipe will be released. Bark box is a US made alternative to the Summerlands Chuffer. No idea about what plumbing is required for the whistle. max.

Looks like a 'John Guest' to me, same as we used to use with blown optic-fibre. Can't remember how they were classified, apart from size.

Aerials are not usually an issue with modern 2.4GHz equipment. For example, the aerial (grey wire) on a Planet T5 receiver is about 1 inch long!

that Ariel is much smaller than i imagined

or that is a very big receiver!!!

i take it that receiver can operate 6 functions and that the controller would need to have at least 6 function or outputs

i dont really want a airplane/car controller, one with buttons or rotary control is probably what i will go for

any thoughts appreciated,,,, and i take its one controller for each loco

The R6M receiver is approx. 1.5 x 0.75 x 0.5 inches, and yes, 6 functions. Their R4M and R4MS are even smaller, but only 4 functions. The Planet transmitter is a 2-stick type and I use them for all locos - both my own and customers'. It is possible to set a transmitter up for multi-loco control, I have one that controls three.

tony thanks for that,,,,,

i like the look of the rcs transmitter and the more i think about it i might even convert my other electric locos to radio control

i have a berlyn rgs 20 4-6-0 that would benefit from being radio controlled as it shorts when going through reverse curves
and is pretty unusable in its current state

so maby i need to think about transmitters that can control separate locos,,
i have used the aristo crest at a freinds and just thought it fiddly and over complicated
not that i could get used to it , but i prefer knobs to levers or buttons

Yes Davey.
You can bind as many RX's (locos) to one TX as you wish.
They must of course be using DSM2 compatible RX's.
The TX-9 features servo reversing on all channels although that isn't much use if a second loco is not set up for default servo direction the same as the 1st one. Some RX's have automatic binding and are programmable for servo direction and extremes of movement.

Hi Davey don't look on here very often now so it's is very nice to see that you now have a live steam K-37 if your after a steam whistle I could recommend John Campbell's work here's one that I filmed on a K-28 that he had just fitted .

That is a really nice whistle.
I have yet to hear an electronic whistle which is as properly quill-able as that is.
Do you have any links to where they might be purchased?

Sorry I don't have any links Tony , but John can be found at many G scale shows where he has a display of very fine models that he has built .

I would very much like to get one of those whistles made by John Campbell for my K-28. I'll have to look out for him at the 16 mm NGM show. Max
