I always felt that the LNER A3s were beautiful locos and I am old enough to remember that wonderful apple green applied by either Doncaster or Darlington.
I took this picture last Friday at my live steam GTG at Thurnby.
Philip Taylors Aster version 'Royal Lancer', just prior to a successful run surely illustrates my point. Just look at that engine from the 1920's. and all credit to Aster for a getting it just right.
The paraphernalia that is carried to ensure a good steam up is well illustrated under the model

She's absolutley gorgeous. My favorite LNER loco has to be the V2 though

Both fine looking locos. H'mm my chin's wet - oh I'm drooling! Nice rake of teak coaches too!

The coaches are magnificent. Thy were made by Pete Comley, a displaced Brit, living near Seattle. That's him, on the left. I'm sure you recognize the chap on the right...

The A3s shown so far are meths fired. Some of Aster models are coal fired or they give you the option of either meths or Coal firing.
I can't recall them doing an A3 with coal option however.
The crimson streamlined Duchess shown on Tom Myers posting is a real beauty and also fairly rare!

Trevor, Pete Comley's Duchess is rare indeed, it is the only one. Made by Pete, the engine started life as an Aster Schools I think. I have seen it run at DH, where Tom took the above picture, and beautifull it is too.
