Locobox Sophie - slate train

Some of you may have seen Peter Harling's Pimlico Tramway on the Narrow Gauge in
the Garden DVD and were saddened to hear of its closure. Well Peter's locobox
Sophie "Hodder" came down to the Summerlands Light Railway and has had a few
modifications. She has a new chimney, buffer beams, smokebox dart and 2.4ghz
radio. Work is still ongoing in the chuff department and she is on light duties
until I can get more lead up front to improve the balance.

Yesterday, we had a break in the weather to do some filming and so, with Roy
Wood at the regulator, we made a little film which you can see here:

Or on my website news page as usual. Also - below is a photo from the filming session.

Cheers
Chris

Nice vid. Are Loco box still in business? They are no longer on the PPS website. Fancied buying some of their cylinders for a build as believe they have the same footprint as the mamod type but wiggle less.

Sadly Locobox are no longer in business. I think the cylinders are bigger bore than PPS, but I am not aware that they were ever sold separately. It would be possible to use PPS cylinders with new piston rods and back plates, but that would be serious model engineering.

I always liked the Locobox locos, shame they are gone. Sorry to hear that the Plimco has passed also, it was a nice looking railway from the web. Congrats on obtaining that loco!

What a great video. I love your slate wagons. I am going to steal your idea for wagon loads.

Great vidoe. I love the slate wagons. Where are they from or is there a plan somewhere?

Thanks guys for the kind words:)

The Wren (thanks mbif) was the inspiration for the chimney - we have a 7 1/4" one at our local club. Once I had turned the taper though, I fancied a larger, early Baldwin type copper cap. I made one out of bronze and then....painted it black......

The slate waggons were scratch built by the late Michael Woodward who often wrote in 16mm Today magazine. I have attached some photos which show they are pretty simple. The slates are painted card I think. They came as a rake of ten in a carrier so are really simple to just wheel out onto the track.

Cheers
Chris
