From USA Trains
GP38-2 http://www.uqr.me.uk/spgp385.JPG I must like these because I have two of them
GP30 photo to follow when I get home form work. Possibly my favourite.

Both still available from USAT and through Jeremy

From Aristo
GP40 http://www.uqr.me.uk/DSC02851.JPG and http://www.uqr.me.uk/aDSC03220.jpg . Probably the best model of this group. Aristo got their act together at around this time. Some problems with gearboxes reported but Ariso will replace. Mine is fine.
U25b http://www.uqr.me.uk/DSC03015.JPG . Old model and not so well detailed (=less bits to fall off) but plenty around second hand at reasonable prices. And of course this is not actually a jeep, its a u-boat.
Ok I know the warbonnet scheme is not correct for the GP38 or U-boat locos but there is no denying they look good in it.

Hi Chris M you obviously are an expert on two of the locos I have, the GP38 and the U25b. I have three of the latter and a week or so back was trying to find out the difference between the SF #250 and the #6609, the latter being a much heavier loco. I presume your statement that the Warbonnet livery is incorrect for this loco is because I suppose the U-boats were out of service when the Warbonnet livery was introduced. Anyway, what the heck, it looks good. My other U25 is the last of the line, New Haven 2525. Yes, bits falling off is a pest, the GP38 has lost a lot of hanging down bits.
Interesting post Chris, I like this sort of stuff. I actually thought the term "jeep" only referred to GP7 and 9, although I fully realise it was, like u-boat, a railfan term with no official status

Nice vids Chris
I too like the GP30's, GP 38 and 40. Also the SD 40-2, 45, and SD50 (I am in process of knocking one of these up from a SD 70 and cab and low bonnet from a doner GP 40). Due to the massive incline on my layout, I have a very good excuse to triple or quad head (or other combinations) the locos.

The keep thing is exact the same as the war time four wheel drive vehicle. GP standing for General Purpose and being said as jeep.
The warbonnet livery was initially for passenger locos only with he blue and yellow for freight. Some Coco u boats were used for passenger service and had he warbonnet scheme. Passenger locos were geared differently to give a higher maxim speed
